Why Gore's endorsement of Dean has a major impact..... *lots of photos*
Edited on Tue Dec-09-03 04:53 PM by Sean Reynolds
Whether you agree with the endorsement or not, I don't think there is MUCH denying that it will have an impact on the Dean campaign. Why? Well check the front pages of a lot of US daily newspapers - you'll see an article talking about Gore's endorsement of Dean. A lot of people today do not know about Howard Dean. If they glance at the front page of their newspaper and see that the former Vice President has endorsed Howard Dean, they're going to want to know who he is.

Anyway, I ran through some newspapers throughout the country and thought I'd post the front page of a lot of them.

I think we can all agree that this was a major media win for Dean.

You may want to edit your subject line to warn about that.

3. Yes, I agree it will win support for Dean
As many others have said, it will attract the attention of undecided and independent voters, and Dean will gain new supporters. It will be interesting to see how the other candidates (a couple of which I prefer to Dean) will react - I don't think this tips the balance permanently, but it sure does tip it, and the other candidates will marshal their forces to try and tip it back.

5. you are correct
Al Gore, despite many of the other posts from frustrated supporters of other candidates, is a big event. This is the man who got more votes than any other candidate for president in 2000. This is the man for whom many Democrats are still angry about his being denied the presidency. Will it change lots of minds of people who have made up their minds? I doubt it. Will it help with fund raising? yep. getting other establishment endorsments? yep. Will it help with some undecided voters? You bet. Will it help with strong Gore supporters (and they are out there) Sure. Will it help with African-Americans? Indeed, Gore got over 90% of their vote and turnout was higher in '00 in black neighborhoods than it was for Clinton in '96.

A excellent endorsement.

6. A W of a good color.
Heheh, I love the Daily News and their 184-point font. Especially when they ran the BUSH KNEW headline.

Later.

10. Are you referring to the negative impact?
As in my case, where I take major offense to those trying to circumvent our democratic process. Minorities trying to steer the majority of Americans while not 1 vote has been cast.

Dean nomination , means no vote this GE from this lifelong Democrat.

BTW, What were you thinking with this post? That it would be fun to have apge take forever to load?

11. Circumvent our democtratic process?

How? Last I checked THIS WAS a democratic process, thus a person has the right to endorse any candidate he/she chooses. Last I checked Gore is not twisting YOUR arm to vote for Dean. Last I checked people have endorsed Kerry, Gephardt, Kucinich, Dean, Clark, Lieberman, Edwards, Braun and Sharpton ALL. What makes Gore's endorsement any different? If they attack him for endorsing Dean, I hope Kerry turns around and says he does not want Hart’s endorsement. I hope Clark turns around and tells my congressman Matheson that he doesn't want HIS endorsement.

Oh and I told people there were lots of photos in the subject line. You took the chance in clicking the link, you didn't have to. Or let me guess, Gore's endorsement of Dean made you? :eyes:

13. Thanks for the thread, Sean. I had no trouble with the thread
coming up for me, but I do have cable broadband so it was not problem.

This is a BIG news story, no matter what others have said. I respect Al Gore a lot and his endorsement just reaffirms my respect.

12. Life Long Dem?
And you're not going to vote in the GE because of this? You'll risk more Bush over this?

Take your toys and hit the road, and don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.

I understand disappointment, I understand if you don't like Dean, or Gore, or DU. But a real Dem, especially a life long Dem, would vote their conscious in the primary, and the Dem candidate in the GE. Especially now, when so much is at risk.

Life long Dem my ass.
