Poll question: Dean & Clark partisans: How deep is your animosity toward each other?
I don't think it's really that bad, but...

The answers don't let you express your preference.

Face it, someone says something that ticks you off, you respond, and if you were talking with that person face-to-face, you know you'd respond differently. It's the anonymity of chat rooms that lets things get carried away once in a while.

due to negative tactics on the part of the Democrats. After reading the bitter comments from *some* Clark supporters who have promised to do the same thing, I now realize how utterly stupid I sounded.

I will fall in line with whichever Democrat wins the nomination. I hope most others will do the same.

18. What is wrong here?
Why is this even a question? Why would I have any bitterness, anger, or animosity towards a supporter of Dean, Clark, or other Democrat running for the nomination?

The idea here is to not beat the s*it out of ourselves. It would be nice if each of our candidates just ran positive campaigns. You know like "Here is what I will do, these are my strengths, my plans, and BTW this is what I think Bush has done wrong. And if you want to know, I think the other Democrats running are all good candidates, would make fine Presidents, and I'll be happy to support whoever".

Sure that's a little naive but what a gift that would be to the voters. While we're at it, how about no negative ads too?

Save your anger, hate, bitterness, animosity, whatever for the Republican nominee. This war between supporters is tiring at best.

20. Dean people are overly sensitive.
I think Dean is destined to lose with his tax policy. I cannot understand why Dean supporters do not realize this. NOBODY is capable of persuading middle class Americans to vote for a guy, who believes in raising in federal income taxes.

My friend makes $60K per year and has two kids. He is a tree-hugger if there ever was one. But he has already said that he won't vote for a guy who wants to take over $2,000 per year out of his pocket!

50. Okay.....
You say you don't plan to vote for Clark, (and Clark *is* a registered Democrat, and is running under the Democratic Party banner, like him or not). But then you say "I have always voted for Democrats, and I always will." Logical impass here.

If Clark is the Democratic nominee, would you vote for him, even if you have to hold your nose doing it? Or would you vote for someone you see as being more of a Democrat, even if they're running as a independent or 3rd party choice?

If your choice for the nomination drops out and endorses Clark, or throws their support to Clark as the nominee at the convention, would you vote for him??

I'm not asking this to be mean or pick on you, but I'm really quite curious about what I see as a logical impass here.

35. I like everyone except Lieberman

People just look at the news today, they (the media) are deliberately flaming the fires between different dem. candidates. Why would they do such a thing? Because they are all owned by a small group of people that want *BUSH to win. They are terrified of any democrat willing to call them on their shit. When I watch the debates I don't only cheer when my guys says something good, I cheer when ANY of the Dems says something that is purposely not being covered by the media! Like Edwards and Kucinich talking about Diebold, or when Braun said the medicaid bill was a stuffed turkey, or when Gepthart called * a Misserable Failure, or when Kerry said that * fucked up, or when Sharpton said that any candidate on their worst day with no sleep was still ten times better than *Bush, or when Clark blasted *Bush for lying about the war. I LOVE ALL OF THE CANDIDATES NOT JUST DEAN! I would proudly campaign for any of them because ANY OF THEM ARE BETTER THAN WHAT WE HAVE NOW!!!

We like each other, and agree on most things political.

47. Good Winners and Good Losers

I teach my child as much about being a good winner as being a good loser.

What I have seen today on DU is lots of very bad winners (those happy about the endorsement by Gore). The animosity is partially due to that - it is not enough to be leading in the polls, or receiving endorsements - some Dean supporters are really very insulting (personally insulting) to supporters of other candidates, including Clark. I have no less than 5 times today said Gore's endorsement of Dean was fine IMO (I quibble with his stance that we should pull together when he then went on to criticize all the other candidates - sort of speaking with forked tongue a bit).

These supporters are banking on our ABB stance -- and I think to some extent abusing us because of that. Some people are really quite horrible.

I can be a good winner and a good loser. I hope others can do the same.

48. none that will last...
... for one thing I like Clark almost as much as I like Dean. But it is really sad to see all of the obvious bashing going on.

And no doubt I've participated, mostly in rebuttal to ridiculous shallow points that are sold as momentous. But, as of today I've decided to use the ignore feature. Anyone who starts an obvious bashing thread will not appear on my screen until the nomination is done.

I am looking forward to that day, because there is no doubt in my mind that all this rancor is doing nothing to further our real common cause. On the other hand, I think, and the poll results show, that most of use are going to get behind the Dem nom, no matter what.

It's only here on DU that I've seen a lot of deep-seated hatred from both sides. People, remember ABBA - Anyone But Bush Again.

So far, the only disagreement I've had with my "Deanie" friends is if it should be "Clark/Dean in '04", or "Dean/Clark in '04" :-)

Howard Dean
Wesley Clark

I will be proud to have either of them as our President. I think both of them can go toe to toe with the Bush Crime Family in what is going to be the most vicious campaign season ever in American history. I hope they're ready.

No animousity here at all.

I support all the candidates, although some I personally prefer to others, and I respect their views and their supporters. We have been offered a range of fine candidates -- anyone who says that there is no difference between the parties is very wrong.

My belief is that Bush deserves to be exposed as the incompetent scheming opportunistic creep that he is. I want to win in 2004, and in my heart, I think this is the way to go.

I wish everyone the very best of luck.

It's a shame that a noisy few who are devoted to smearing Dean or Clark have convinced so many that they are representative of all of Clark's or Dean's supporters.
