Poll question: Which bumper sticker will get me less hassle from the cops?
I am moving from California to El Paso, TX in March 2004. Which bumper sticker in your opinion will get me less hassle from the cops on my journey?

Should I experiment and put a Clark sticker on one and a Dean sticker on the other car. We have two cars.

1. If that's your only criteria
put a Bush sticker on your car! Either put a sticker on your car of someone you support or don't put it on at all.

4. Use the Dean one
and have the classic "Bad Cop, No Doughnut" sticker next to it. That should be good for an ass whoopin!

5. I live in Dallas
And I have a Dean sticker on my car.

3 weeks ago I was pulled over (speeding, damn me) and the cop asked where I got the sticker. He wanted to get one, he liked Dean.

16. i wouldn't be so quick to judge
where i live, cops kill black people all the time, and for no reason. i've heard the same is true in parts of TX, and a bumper sticker is more than enough reason to get that particular ball rolling. if the poster who started this thread is white, i suppose it could be a different issue. for people of color though, this is a very real concern.

12. Don't worry - El Paso is a democrat town.
I'm from there. If you take I-10 from CA to El Paso, you pass through Tucson, which is also a fairly democratic town. I put Clark, because I don't think any cops would have a problem with him, but honestly, the region you are driving through is NOT an especially right-wing, extremist area. NM is also a pretty liberal state... North San Diego county is worse than El Paso. So you are okay with either sticker. I drove through Georgia & the Carolinas with my "I Support the Troops, not the Unelected Fraud" bumpersticker, and had no trouble...

El Paso is wonderful in that the cost of a home is about as low as it gets in the US, and the people are very warm and friendly. "The State Line", "Jaxon's", and "Bella Napoli" are all great restaurants. "Charcoaler" on the west side has great flame-grilled burgers and a unique drive-thru. "Taco Cabana" is a pretty good chain for Mexican, and "Kiki's" is a great working-class tavern/mexican grille. If you are like most people, you will grow to love it.

Hiking to Cottonwood Springs in the Franklin Mtns, White Sands Nat'l Park, Skiing at Ruidoso, and the Old Mesilla village are all great area attractions. I'll be going back there this Xmas. Can't wait.

17. Thanks for your comments
I am in the Air Force and moving to work at Fort Bliss. My wife doesn't want me to buy a house there, she wants to live on base. I'll be there at least 2 years.

thanks

14. I got pulled over
for having a Hinchey (D- NY CD 22) sticker where I should have a front plate. The cop made a big scene, spinning a u to catch me. He told me that thieves steal cars and drive them w/o plates (to which I responded, "oh. And has someone reported a vehicle similiar to mine as stolen?").
I didn't have my drivers license, registration, or insurance papers on me (all ticketable offenses) and I was stoned...er, under the influence.
Instead of writing me a ticket, the cop took the time to explain that I should remove my bumper stickers (close indian point, arlo guthrie, clearwater, dead, DEAN). He closed by saying, "and those stickers... They aren't helping you or anyone else... I suggest you get rid of them."
So my stickers got me pulled over, and they got me out of a ticket. While the cop hated me (leftist hippy; I know the dudes sister and he has always hated my outspoken liberal opinions), and while he had all the legal reasons to write me tickets, he instead choose to criticize my stickers.

20. You're safe in El Paso
It's like Austin in that it's a Democratic city in a Repug state.

Also, El Paso feels more like New Mexico than Texas. It's a neat place.

Of course the similarities pretty much end there!
