don't talk about bush, you're in america now!
i had a lovely visit with a british friend this weekend. he was in the states on a business trip.

he said that, when he checked in at the u.s. office and they gave him his orientation for his stay, they warned him, "do NOT talk about bush, you're in AMERICA now!"

to which he and his compatriots cried, "well, there go all our jokes!"

fact of the matter is, 90% of brits HATE bush, and anti-bush jokes and rails go over quite nicely when they travel on business in europe. but here in the u.s., some of us dupes somehow take offense to anti-bush jokes, to the point where businesses have to TRAIN europeans not to joke about it.

ugh.

1. I want to know what "office" said this.
What an outrageous thing to say to a visitor. What, don't talk about Der Fuhrer because you're in Germany??

I want to know where this was and when.

3. he works for
a global pharmaceutical company called becton, dickenson and company.

if you've had a blood sample taken in the last 10 years. there about a 96% chance that it was taken with a bd syringe/specimen tube.

they are based on northern new jersey.

i would not take this as anything bad about the company, rather, something bad about our culture and politics that a company here has to warn its visiting branch office employees the pitfalls of political humor here.

"Do not talk bad about Clinton. You're in America now!!!"

I don't think there's a chance in hell that ever happened.

6. Europeans in general LOVED Clinton.
My hubby and I were in Ireland during the Referendum and they constantly talked about what a great president he was. Funny how things change in just a few years. When my friend Alicia went to Europe in the spring of 2001, she said EVERYONE complained about what a dumbass * was. She said the most common remark she got was "I love America but your president is an idiot/moron/dumbass/twit etc."
