What exactly is bipartisanship?
Watching Hillary this morning on both MTP and This Week, both hosts
tried to spin the Medicare bill's support as "bipartisan" because 11 Democrats voted for it.

11 out of 49.

Does that constitute bipartisanship?

1. Not in my book
However, the Bushies are trying to make it so that even one defection constitutes bipartisanship.

By that standard, the opposition to the bill was also bipartisan.

2. According to my Newspeak Dictionary
Bipartisan means anything that Bush wants must get passed, but everything the Dems want to do must be condemned as anti-American, partisan BS that must not be forced on the American people.

So, bi-partisan is the Republican agenda.

3. The word is rather out of style
these days unless it involves a simple issue that is of little consequence.

4. Well
Bipartisanship is when two partisan sides come together to formulate a "product". The only Senate groups that really came together were moderate-conservative Democrats like Breaux and Baucus. In the House, it was almost purely a Republican job.

So Democrats voted for it. Big Deal, they didn't make it. Maybe they wanted concessions in exchange or something.

So I would call this a bi-partyship bill.

5. Understanding that the same corporations can help both Dems and Repubz!

So politicians from both sides of the aisle come together and patch up their differences for the greater good of keeping their pockets full!

8. Silly you! Haven't you learned yet?
One Democratic vote (e.g. Zell Miller) automatically makes something bipartisan. :-)

ist.

Almost exactly the same definition as in Skittles' post.

P.S: I'd never let any daughter of mine go out with Norquist -- or any other Rethug.
