2. It's not on...
in Cleveland until 10:30. Newt's on today, too, then? Thanks for the warning, I'll keep the remote handy.

OK, I gotta get off this thread, I don't want to catch any spoilers!

4. I am watching her
now. She is terrific.

We truly did get "two for the price of one" with both Bill and Hillary Clinton.

She would make a great President or Secretary of State.

6. I hung on every word she spoke
I thought she was fantastic. She is so articulate and she took advantage of every opportunity to slam Bush. If the show hasn't come on in your area, please watch it.

8. The Emperor has no clothes!
That was the best part :) just after an article from the moonie times was read to her she shook her head and laughed and said "that is just so sad". Then she said, refering to Bush, "it really is like the childrens story, the emperor has no clothes." Yes! She hit a homerun with that one!

I also caught her on Stephanopolous' show with George the-whiner Wills. She can handle herself brilliantly.

...someone begins going off on you for posting a positive post about her. I truly was impressed. I wish to hell she had never said she would finish out her term as Senator before considering a run for president. She would have had no problem beating the Chimpanzee squatting in Al Gores White House next year.

12. When Hillary laughs at herself she is unbeatable
It's interesting how magically she can turn around her negative image to work for her. Not a trace of the bitchiness or shrewishness that she sometimes gets forced into. Even Gingrich in the interview following praised her as a "hardworking professional". Whatever else, what is so admirable about Hillary is, through all the slings and arrows, she just stubbornly carries on, almost above the fray.

13. It would be a crime if we Dems do not use her for higher office soon
If and when the real public comes forward to really hear her

she will shine through much brighter/smarter/

We need her

We want her

She can be of a great help.

15. Hillary said something really amazing
Russert was grilling her on why she supported tariffs to help the steel industry, pointing out that her husband was for free trade. But she reminded Russert that in the real world, people's livelihoods were at stake and then she said something that really floored me. Paraphrasing: "You know, Tim, we're what you might call affluent intellectuals. We will probably always get by. But for the people I represent in upper New York they're having a hard time." An obvious truth, perhaps, but it's rare to hear any of these pundits or politicians who tell people so theoretically what to do be so honest about themselves as, her phrase, "affluent intellectuals".

16. that's especially good against Russert
he sees himself as a blue-collar guy from Buffalo.

There's an absolutely hilarious "Daily Howler" about Russert and Bernard Goldberg stroking each other and themselves for their blue-collar roots, they're actually saying the "liberal media" is the result of journalists' elite upbringing. Somerby shows them no mercy. :-)

17. bitchiness? shrewishness?
"... a trace of the bitchiness or shrewishness that she sometimes gets forced into."

I beg your pardon? If Hillary is "bitchy" or "shrewish" ... what does that make the often-nasty-edged Howard Dean? "Forecful"? "Commanding"? "Puissant"?

Not to get all "feminazi" on your ass, but "bitchy" and "shrewish" are words applied to a forceful woman who stands up for herself. Since Dean's a man, his nasty temper is construed as "just what we need -- someone to fire back at Bush."

I wish Hillary were running. I'll take her "bitchiness" and "shrewishness" -- when aimed at the rethuglicans -- any day!!!

you get one result, a DU thread started by me back in May. :-)

I think the word Dean gets most it "pugnacious."

Btw, I'm guessing you were responding to #12, not to my post.

21. Update on "affluent intellectual". Not in transcript
I'm just looking thru the MTP transcript and there seems to be no mention of Hillary calling herself an "affluent intellectual". I'm getting older and worry about such things but I don't think I imagined it. Did anyone else hear that line?

I get MTP "on demand" and I can roll the tape at any time. I don't know if her exact words were "affluent intellectual" but it is close enough to what she meant.

25. Interesting. Why would they leave it out of the transcript?
I know these are rough and incomplete transcripts but that seems a very significant line to omit. It may have been edited out by Hillary herself but I doubt it. Here in NY they repeat it on Sunday night at 10 on CNBC. If it's closed captioned I can record the subtitles.

27. I really hope she didn't say that
because it sounds somewhat snobbish - did she really say "we are affluent intellectuals" Doesn't really seem like her to use those words. Haven't been able to hear it yet.

28. She said it in an almost self-deprecating way
She wasn't trying to be snobbish at all. It was actually very honest, as if to say "we shouldn't let our success or position blind us to the problems of the majority of Americans who don't have our resources and privileges." Though it obviously can be taken out of context in an elitist way. Which I'm sure Drudge will try to do. Maybe that's why it was left out of the transcript.

22. She gave the best interviews on Russert and Steph's Show I've seen a
Democrat give in a very long time. She answered questions directly and didn't let either Russert or Steph keep her off her answers about policy. She was very skillful without resorting to Political "Speak" that Dodd, Biden and the very few others who manage to occasionally get on the Pundit shows seem to do where they really don't say anything.

26. I heard a professor on CSPAN say "We should rethink the jobs at
Walmart and fast food"..because the good jobs that have gone offshore will not be back.

He believes if we thought of these other jobs in a different light...they would be, and could be good jobs.

Now...when we start outsourcing professors...I want to see him work at walmart and plaster a smile of satisfaction on his face.

At least Hillary admitted the fact that she and others like her (by the way..I like her)will be ok..she can see the rest of us will be nothing but servants to the rich.

29. Further update on Hillary calling herself an "affluent intellectual"
For those who follow such trivial nonsense, I just watched the whole rebroadcast of MTP, following on the transcript, and, sure enough, the segment in which Hillary refers to herself and Russert as "affluent intellectuals" has been edited out. Don't really blame her.

18. Hilary hit a triple, at least.
She was also on ABC This Week with George S.

She was fabulous. Calm, professional, passionate. Sincere concern for the troops, fighting the real problems, not the messes W. created. No wonder so many want her to run.

24. I came here to GD to see if anyone had posted this topic...
I was going to ask the same question. I saw her on three shows and she was terrific. I think she was particularly good on MTP because her humor came through very strongly. God, we really need her. I have never been as impressed with a female politician as I am with her. And the only male politicians that have impressed me similarly is JFK and Bill Clinton.
