To my dismay - here's what we're up against - Letter to Editor

How do you pronounce Uday and Qusay in pig Latin?

Randy Williams, Arlington

That was a letter to the editor in the paper copy of the Dallas Morning News today. Here's a letter from the Dallas Morning News Online edition:

Lower taxes says it all
Re: "A wonderful president?" by Thomas F. Froehlich, Monday Cyberletters.

Mr. Froelich ends his letter by stating ... am I missing something?

I would say that he is.

I'm paying less taxes than I was paying three years ago. That's all I need to know!

Skip Morelock, Dallas, Texas

and finally, here's a quote from an article about the tax refunds in the Dallas Morning News today:

Its current advertising campaign, geared toward check cashers, reminds consumers that improving their home is a sound investment.

Greta Lynch, a 36-year-old from Ohio attending the annual Mary Kay convention, won't be using a mattress, but she will save the money.

"I'm a stout Republican and I love George Bush," said the mother of 6- and 7-year-old sons. "If he wants to give me money, that's great."

Is it really mandatory to be an idiot, in order to be a Conservative?

10. gotta love George Carlin
heres my quote and its my words
"Ignorance and Greed are the cause of problems for ignorance leads to greed and greed leads people to vote igonrant. Also I forgot who told me this lol but do people really think a 300 dollar tax cut will change their life forever. Thats why many people vote republican so they can get a tax cut that wont really affect them while the people who should be getting cuts deserve better.

my mom is just a little right of himmler, devoted ditto-head with agnew as her hero. i am new to this site and a recently (2 or 3 years) converted independent. generally we avoid political discussions except for my little digs now and then. my son, her only grandson, went to a kerry meeting last thursday and was named chicago area high school coordinator. justice is sweet!!! :p

by the way, what do the terms kick and bounce refer to. is there a DU primer on the lingo for rookies??

gotta go run and coach my baseball team but will check in later.

16. kick and bounce
Hi, steviet_2003 :hi:, Welcome to DU!

My favorite emoticons kick :kick: and bounce :bounce: are used to bump a thread up to the top of the page. This is to keep it from falling off into the netherworld so more people will have a chance to read the thread. It is also a lazy person's (me--;) ) way to echo the views expressed by those more informed or eloquent than I.

8. I'm paying less taxes too
but we're making a whole lot less money due to the pitiful economy. Whatever tax cuts we've received doesn't even make a dent in what we've lost in our IRA's.

Critical thinking is not a strong point of Bush backers.

9. "less taxes"

feh! maybe less federal income tax but...

increased state of NY taxes
increased city of NY taxes
33% increase in transit fares

*'s blather (to average working citizens, not $1M+ a year CEOs) adds up to less than nothing in real value.

someday (?) the enough repukes will find themselves without an income to be taxed and/or crushed by state and local taxes due to BushCo's slashing of federal funds...

12. I'm paying fewer taxes, too, but
that's because my income is down 40% from what it was in 2000. :-(

11. Either an idiot or
a rich person who is evil and greedy!

Less taxes? Hey, my hubby and I pay less taxes since he got laid off. We pay less sales tax since we don't buy as much.

13. Ooh, ooh, here's an advertising campaign for the Dems!
"George Bush came into office promising fewer taxes. Well, you know, he was right. All 3,000 people who were laid off from my company have been paying fewer taxes--because we have less income. X million Americans nationwide are paying fewer taxes as well, because their jobs have disappeared. George Bush's idea of fewer taxes is tax breaks for billionaires and pink slips for the rest of us. Thanks for nothing!"

15. to continue:
"And even those fortunate enough to have a job are facing increased state and local taxes, increased sales taxes, increased fees, increased transit fares, and other expenses that will eliminate any federal cuts that actually reach working people."
