What bombshell was dropped this morning on Meet The Press?
I didn't catch it today for personal reasons. I came in just
in time to see a replay of Senator Warner being questioned by
reporters following his exiting the show. One reporter
remarked, some people would consider this announcement quite a
bombshell. What announcement? I could not discern the topic
from Warner's answer.

2. I'm guessing that's a reference to Joseph Wilson's
assertion that the administration manipulated intelligence (no sh**!). He's the envoy who investigated the Niger uranium issue. This is a lead story on yahoo news.

8. If people have a chance to rate the story that might it spread
If the story is rated high then more people will be likely to see it. Rating options are at the bottom of the yahoo link to the story.

17. Here is the CNN version:
Bottom line: Bush lied, people died!

John Warner will lie to protect the Moron-in-Chief. A real patriot would be calling for impeachment hearings!

Diplomat: U.S. knew uranium report was false
Sunday, July 6, 2003 Posted: 1837 GMT ( 2:37 AM HKT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A former U.S. diplomat said Sunday he told the Bush administration that Iraq had not tried to buy uranium from Niger in the late 1990s to develop nuclear weapons.

Former Ambassador to Gabon Joseph Wilson told NBC's "Meet the Press" he informed the CIA and the State Department that such information was false months before U.S. and British officials used it during the debate that led to war.

During his State of the Union address in January, two months before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, President Bush accused Iraq of trying to buy "significant quantities of uranium" from an unnamed African country. He cited British intelligence, which had published a similar report in September 2002.

"If they were referring to Niger when they were referring to uranium sales from Africa to Iraq, ... that information was erroneous and ... they knew about it well ahead of both the publication of the British white paper and the president's State of the Union address," Wilson said.

4. A bombshell? From Warner?
Who dropped it? Just the news, or Warner on MTP?

What difference does it make, that's what I'd like to know.
However will the Bushies spin this so that Americans lap it up?

13. Thanks for your replies and links
Now I know the scoop.

None of this information is a bombshell. We've discussed most of the information here, hoping one day the truth would surface. Looks like it's starting to bubble to the top -- the question is, once again, will the Republicans be able to beat this one back too. I don't think so.

I think Bush has planned all along to replace Cheney, and this would give him the perfect excuse to pick up someone like Frist.

The truth you will set you free, Dick Cheney, and it is our passionate hope it sets Bush* even freer. Free from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to go back to the ranch ....

27. July 4th, CNN was running a Cheney bio that made my jaw drop.
It gave him full credit for our "pre-emptive" war strategy. Then it mentioned how there was some little furor over his old company Halliburton making all that money on Iraq contracts.

I thought, "they're setting him up."

Now I read Pundit Pap wondering if Cheney's being set up.

Did his health take a turn for the worse?

19. More people will begin to pay attention to the truth
as the casualties continue to mount in Iraq. And as people get fed up with "Bring 'em on Bush" they will admit that they were decieved by the lying sack of shit.

20. I felt disappointed watching Meet the Press
If only because all of the commentary seemed to be geared toward trying to downlplay the significance of these discoveries.

I was shocked at the beginning to hear some of the topics being raised, but after hearing them knocked down time and time again without challenge, I ended the show crestfallen.

I suppose the fact the questions were raised at all in the mainstream press should be enough to make me happy...but still.

22. Today's MTP in summary
Edited on Sun Jul-06-03 08:56 PM by GiovanniC
Wilson says the Bush administration was told that a major allegation against Iraq in the run-up to war was falsified, and they were told at least as early as September of 02. People very high up in the administration (at least as high as Cheney) were provided with proof of this (not just people in the "bowels of the ", as Rice claimed), yet months later they continued to use this information to justify war, even including it in the State of the Union.

Then, we get the ranking Dem on the Armed Services Committee and the chairman of same committee. Chairman says, "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain... move along, nothing to see here." Carl Levin (D - one of my Senators!) says Bush "Bring It On" comment is "cocky rhetoric". Warner (R) says Bush is just telling the military they are awesome ("I double-dog-dare you Iraqis to attack my awesome army men", Warner claims Bush is saying). Levin is allowed to say a couple of things against the administration. Warner then rebukes everything Levin is saying in a very condescending way, as though Levin is just a naive child.

Next up comes the round table discussion, where it is agreed by pretty much everyone that Bush is doing a splendid job, that the things Wilson had talked about a little earlier were completely irrelevant, that Bush's "Bring It On" comment was just "blown out of proportion", and Democrats don't really stand a chance of winning in 04.

There, I just saved everyone 56 minutes minus commercials.

26. This is what we need to see -- or the public at large needs to observe
Visual aids -- lying up front and in the face of the American people, by the players in the Bush* misadministration. It's a topic we have discussed here many times over the months, but one which has eluded the American people at large. It's such a moral, Christian administration, obviously its players must be truth-tellers. What a rude awakening lies (no pun intended) ahead for many American people.
