6. There are many who don listen seriously, only pretending to be.
Most have their minds made up unless the subject is unfamiliar.

Most Hawaii People think masticate is a dirty word, LOL.

2. Yes. I make of point of it.
In fact I listen carefully to what they don't say as well as to what they do. Why? Because most people are so desperate to be listened to, they will tell you everything they want you to know, and everything they don't if you give them half a chance.

5. LOL, you got that RIGHT. But what most people don't realize,
listening is an art form. Some people listen only when they want something. But when its not for THEM, they could give a rats ass. Sometimes to the point of rudeness. I have noticed a so called friend during conversation, he will not acknowledge and so when he does this, I clam up, end the conversation. Guess what? I was right, wasn't paying attention. Now a days, I just don't talk anymore. When he comes, I just say hello and leave it at that. He is the only one like this in my circle.

Oh well, thanks for letting me rant.

True listening definitely is.

Are you familiar with "active listening"?

3. Yes...
I listen to my friends and family. I'm the one the others come to when they are upset, confused, hurt, or angry. Nobody should have to suffer emotional pain alone.

In return, I also get to laugh with them, love them, and as far as I'm concerned, they are the reason I feel that we must fight hard to get Whistleass out of office next year. Oh, and by listening, I also learn a lot.

9. Where've you been all my life? ^_^
"Nobody should have to suffer emotional pain alone."

Ohhh, what a rare sentiment! I hardly know what to say... I've given up finding people who actually believe this.

"I'm the one the others come to when they are upset, confused, hurt, or angry."

Ohhh, yeah. Me, too. I'm easy. ^_^ I'm very sensitive, and can empathize with others pain.

But... do you find that they return the favor? I don't find that. As a result, I've become empty. Can only make so many withdrawals without deposits before one goes bankrupt.

Thanks for the topic!

11. Being over 60, I have learned not to expect "the return"
The masses out there, most of them don't realize how much is to be Gained by true listening, a 2 sided dialogue. and the Pubs are most guilty of this, just watch any right wing FOX channel and confirm this. This is why the Pubs continue to make the same mistakes, they hardly listen to each other for gods sake.

Oh well, come, we hunt some avacados for sandwiches,

so ono

12. my mistake
I didn't realize this was only about listening to politics. I guess I heard the "emotional pain" part and put my own meaning to it.

I bow out now.

7. mmmmm, sashimi
I mean, yes.

Being married to a conservative has been eye-opening in many ways. Together we've managed to come towards a mutual understanding, both of the things we disagree about as well as many things we do agree about, but didn't know we did.

Same goes for co-workers. Nearly all of mine are from India, so I get very interesting information from them.

As for family, all of mine are Democrats, and I listen to them of course. My in-laws are naturally conservative, and they don't discuss politics at all. I do listen to their views, when they choose to share them, but usually have to bite my tongue as far as open discussion, as based on experience and information I am aware that such conversations are unwelcome and greeted with hostility. :(

15. This one of the core reasons of the strife we have in this world.
Not really listening and having predisposed positions rigidly in place.

Can only be frustrating

16. Listen to opihimoimoi...
... He knows what it really means. We are all in this together. Just lend an ear if we want to enjoy our fellow humans while we are here, make things better for all of us, and feel good about ourselves. They'll return the favor.

PS: At my house, I am the last to speak. My wife and kids have the right of say.
