Would it make a difference if we lost the presidency in 2004
Edited on Wed Dec-03-03 04:24 PM by CatWoman
but regained control of congress?

No investigations will take place as long as Congress is run by the Republicans.

Of course I want the presidency back -- it was stolen from us, the country, the whole world.

But if I had a choice or say in the matter I could live with that senario.

1. Congress holds the real power in this country.
The pres is a figurehead so that's why I tend to be more concerned about the "midterm" elections.

6. We can take back Congress only with a strong top of the ticket.
Like it or not, fair or not, the bottom of the ticket will be linked to the top name. Whatever the top can be smeared with, the bottom will be associated no doubt.

14. ehhhhh
I reserve the right to be cynical about THAT. History hasn't shown the Dems to have any guts in Congress since Iran-Contra, and that didn't yield much but a few pardons by Bush Sr when he left office over 5 years after the hearings.

I think the Dems are going to be shut out of Congress for another 10 years or more.

13. Given the Patriot Act
I'd say no, that would not an an acceptable alternative.

All these bozos need is one more cataclysm (genuine or engineered) for POTUS to declare martial law or its practical equivalent in the interests of national security. And we certainly didn't need Franks to alert us to this possibility.

Nope. We need to take the White House out of the direct control of the cabal. Even if it means having a patsy in there. At least that'll buy us some time to try and take our nation back.

15. Win or not win things do go up and down.
We may have to see thing go even more down before it starts up once more. I do think world wide we are moving into a progressive movement and not much anyone can do about it. This looks like the dying power sruggle of the laissiz faire capital society as it goes under.

16. We must have congress too.
Nothing will ever be accomplished if we don't win a majority in both houses. My hope is that we win the presidency, both houses of congress and start a MAJOR investigation into the Bush administration. I would love to see the entire PNAC group end up in prison for the rest of their lives. <sigh> I can hope.

20. it could make a difference
it could mean that, the country enjoys Bozo as their leader but they don't trust him enough to run the country.

if we go by the "...politics are local" thinking than it would mean that, on a 'local' scale more people trust the DEMs with the everyday
running of the country. it should be a priority.

21. I believe the White House AND the Senate is completely realistic....
Of course it would be even more so if Kerry, Edwards, and Lieberman would abandon their lost cause Presidential campaigns and concentrated on being Senators. A gain of 2 senate seats isn't that difficult. The house may be less likely, though I certainly wouldn't complain if we did regain all three. And even then we might have to deal with endless obstructionism like the shit Dole & Gingrich pulled from 92 - 94... But I'd take that anyday over the current fascist in the White House and "leadership" that can't LEAD in the congress.

22. I think that it would make a huge difference.
Since Congress has relinquished a lot of the powers that it should have to the executive branch I think that it would matter a great deal. I heard Pat Buchannon railing about this one morning earlier this week on c-span and he came damned near to calling them a bunch of cowards. Be nice to have more Dems in the legislative branch, too, to have more of a voice on judicial appointments, etc.
