No signatures? Walmart shafts those who don't want to use a CC...

...or use a PIN.

http://news.yahoo.com/?tmpl=story&cid=1896&ncid=1896&e=2&u=/nm/20031203/us_nm/retail_walmart_mastercard_dc

EDITED TO ADD THAT THEY'RE ONLY DUMPING THE SIGGIE TRANSACTIONS. <see what happens when you rapid fire posts from work?>

Just like the car rental places did a couple of years ago Walmart now proposes to do.

So Julie 6-pack that doesn't want, or can't get, a credit card has to walk around with cash now that she can't use her bank card to buy cheap crap.

Nice.

1. Nobody should EVER shop at Wal-Mart anyway.
They epitomize EVERYTHING that is wrong with corporate and retail America. At least try K-mart, they are good about hiring and promoting people of color.

Wal-Mart is pure evil. haven't shopped there since old man Walton died.

5. I amended the post. That said...
..."Robertson said some customers will suffer from the Wal-Mart move, because purchases that require a signature allow customers to rack up points or miles on rewards programs but those verified by a personal identification number do not."

"Wal-Mart said it would continue accepting MasterCard credit cards, and "most" customers could still use MasterCard debit cards if they punched in a personal identification number, or PIN. Fees are much lower with the PIN system."

What's "most"? I'm assuming that some require a signature. Mine doesn't but that doesn't mean that all don't.

"Computer services company Unisys said 48 percent of consumers it surveyed prefer using a PIN instead of having to sign for purchases, and 36 percent prefer to sign."

Tough shit for the 36 % I guess.

3. Debit Card Transactions Requiring A Signature
Transactions will be continued for those who use a PIN. PIN transactions are cheaper.

Just another way for Wal-Mart to lower its costs and stiff a banker for a change.

4. This is a different issue altogether.

This involves the fee structure for debit card vs. PIN-style transactions on MasterCard debit cards. My guess is that MC has been charging Wallyworld "too much" in the way of fees for such transactions and, as much as I hate to do it, I must side with Wallyworld on this- I've been having issue with my MasterCard credit card- so much so that this is the very last CC I will ever have, and I intend to rid myself of it and try to opt out of the entire system once my rating improves as my CC becomes paid off.

I've had dealings with other shady persons there as well- this goes from the customer service people all the way up to the top of the company; at least, that's my guess. I think MasterCard may be headed for a spot of trouble if they decide to challenge Wallyworld.

6. You are exagerating greatly. WM still accepts CC, just not MC
unless you have a PIN. If you want to critize someone, you should be truthful in what you say. There is a difference between not accepting CCs and not accepting MC w/o a PIN.
