Rumsfeld world's best language-mangler - Enjoy!!!
LONDON - U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has emerged the "clear" winner for a British award given to the worst mangler of the English language.

The Plain English Campaign has handed Rumsfeld this year's "Foot in Mouth" prize for statements he made about the hunt for Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. The campaign strives to have public information delivered in straightforward English.

Rumsfeld's mangled message?

"Reports that say something hasn't happened are interesting to me, because as we know, there are known unknowns; there are things we know we know. <---just a snip....click for more

I find this interesting to say the least, considering *'s many, many attempts at the english language.
Oh well...six of one, half dozen of the other I suppose. I'm sure we can all agree that ol' Rummy sure does a lot of tap dancing at press conferences trying to lie his way around everything.

1. You mean, after the "great communicator" Reagan
I thought they gave him that tag as sheer satire.

2. lol--here it is in full
"Reports that say something hasn't happened are interesting to me, because as we know, there are known unknowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don't know we don't know."

6. This is intentionally misleading in a "clever" way.
Bush could never accomplish something as agile as this. He wouldn't be able to follow the pattern to it's end. He gets lost in the middle of simple sentences and gives up or makes up the endings. Remember:

"There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, fool me once, shame on— - - shame on you. If fooled, you can't get fooled again." —- George W. Bush, Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 17, 2002
