For SF Area -- Mayor Debate on Local CBS Channel 5 at 7 pm PST
Well, Gore was here today. What a waste.

The debate is on live in about 15 minutes on the local channel 5 affiliate. (This is referring to Tuesday evening Dec 2)

Matt Conzalez and Gavin Newsom go head-to-head in a debate on TV with a live studio audience.

GO MATT !!!

Al Gore Endorses Newsom in SF Mayor's Race

The PIXPage Staff

Mike Sugerman reports
With the hotly contested San Francisco's mayor's election just one week away, the Democrats pulled out the big guns on Tuesday.

Former Vice President Al Gore came to the city to lend his support for Gavin Newsom.

"I'm here because I'm passionately in favor of Gavin Newsom," Gore said. "I want to see him be the next mayor of San Francisco."

Meantime, supporters of Green party candidate Matt Gonzalez led a peace march through the streets of San Francisco.

26. Expect Hillary and Big Dog to show up too!
They all stick together! They should have stuck for the "real" Democrat, Matt Gonzalez.

5. This is the debate we should be having in the US: Green vs Dem
They're arguing about HOW to help the homeless, and not WHETHER we help the homeless.

This is what all debates should be about.

Incidentally, I think the Green candidate is right on the issues.

7. sounds like Newsom
sounds like Newsom is all *talk* on the homeless. He has a lot of rhetoric about what he's gonna do (along with the sound bite slogan phrase "Care Not Cash"), but I thought Gonzalez got some good points by showing how Newsom's proposal wouldn't really work. He said you just can't *talk* about it.

Gonzalez is ahead, imo.

Edited on Tue Dec-02-03 10:38 PM by eablair3
Gonzalez got him good.

Now, Newsom is poor mouthing how he doesn't have any contacts and has to go "to the back of the line" when he wants permits.

Gonzalez is linking Newsom to Willie Brown when he gets the opening -- Great Strategy!

16. He talks like David Caruso -- same inflection. And CSI Miami is
really poorly written.

So I have that problem with Newsom.

He also has Ross Geller's hairstyle, which isn't good.

Edited on Tue Dec-02-03 11:02 PM by eablair3
Newsom had talked previously about how proud he was of his 21 position statements that he has published.

So, Gonzalez gets his chance, and asks Newsom -- "Supervisor Newsom, the Sierra Club has rated the candidates on how they've voted in the past on environmental issues and the Sierra Club gave me an A+ and they gave you a D -- do you believe it's better to rate a candidate on their position paper or on their voting record?" wham!

17. He cares deeply about not allowing too many people live in an
apartment so that demand doesn't drop, which would lower rents.

This is the first time I've seen Gonzalez and Newsom together- no comparison! Does Newsom realize how elitist he comes across? And a stupid one to boot.

28. I haven't seen any yet, but
I had to run away a minute or two before it ended. I popped a tape in though.

I suppose channel 5 will have their wrap up of the debate and the highlights on their newscast. They have been pretty good at getting the video clips up of it. So, I'd bet they'll have a video clip and a news report segment ont he news at 11 pm and online thereafter.

I will be interested to see which local pundits get the broadcast time and what they say about it.

So many times with debates it's hard to tell who "won", but this looked like a clear and decisive victory for Gonzalez.
