BAGHDAD, Iraq, Nov. 30 — Two U.S. soldiers were killed when guerrillas ambushed their convoy in western Iraq near the border with Syria, the military said Sunday.
Also on Saturday, assailants ambushed a team of Spanish intelligence officers, killing seven agents in a bloody new attack on U.S. allies in Iraq. Two Japanese diplomats were shot to death in a separate attack.
The diplomats were killed by unidentified gunmen as they stopped to buy food and drinks at a stand just south of the village of Mukayshifa on the road between Baghdad and Tikrit, where they were attending a reconstruction conference, Lt. Col. William McDonald, said Sunday. The spokesman said they were not being escorted by army troops at the time of the attack.
