Assassination vs. Death Penalty
I was thinking about this last night in lieu of the untimely deaths of those sweet innocent Hussein kids.

Mainly, someone asked me if I support assassinations, and I was frankly stumped. Honestly, I do think it could be useful in limited situations. But, that's just sounds horrible.

But then I thought about the death penalty. I do not have "moral problems" with the death penalty. Not to sound like the president, but there is "evil" in the world and getting rid of it is not a bad thing.

However, I do not support the death penaly, because we have an imperfect system, where abuses occur and mistakes are made. And we frankly can't afford to make mistakes in matters of life and death. If the system was 100 percent fool-proof, I could support it.

So, no, I do not support assassination because it is too dangerous a tool and too easily manipulated.

But I am also not going to shed tears when two obvious shitheads get an anti-tank missle in the face.

1. Fair Enough
Now, I'm pretty sure NO effort was made to 'arrest, apprehend or otherwise bring into custody .

And while I shed no tears, I would like to know what juristiction these guys were wasted under. Just exactly what international law was followed when they were killed as a result of

1) a four to six hour gun battle
2) a TOW missle attack
3) a helicopter gunship attack

Just wonderin' is all....

3. I don't think killing U and Q was assassination
I read that the military had a translator with a bullhorn instructing them to come out and surrender. Then four soldiers went to the front door, kicked it in and were shot at. 3 soldiers were wounded there. That's when the big guns and reinforcements came in.

This isn't much different then how a raid is conducted in the US by the SWAT team, ATF, etc. You give the loser a chance to surrender, if that platitude is returned with a bullet in the face, you give up the BS and go into ass-kicking mode.

How is that an assassination?

6. Because you give them the chance
to come out on their own, or at least engage in a dialog or negotiation. If no one appears at the door with his hands up or yells out a window asking for terms, in say 30 seconds- that is, your demands for surrendoer are met with silence, then it's time to go to plan B.

Unfortunately, plan B involves putting troops into the line of fire. And when your troops are fired on, you shift plan B into high gear and go for the kill.

Sounds like if you were the team leader there, you'd still be surrounding the house with guns trained on these guys, waiting for a peaceful solution.

Fine- wait until hell freezes over, just like Waco, you can play rock music and try to get them to come out on their own. Whatever. Personally, I think those soldiers have better things to do than wait for two puke bags to run out of tabouli.
