"Leftist Slant Apparent" ???
The following letter to the editor appeared in my local paper this morning. I can't post a link, the paper doesn't put the opinion pages on its website. It's a pretty standard letter, as far as the locals go; I'm sharing it because Palast actually got mentioned in the local neocon rag. Did anyone see the interview in question?

This should put to rest for all time the argument that the major media are not committed leftists. Today John Gibson of Fox News had a guest from the BBC named Greg palast, an American. Palast went on an almost uncontrollable rant against President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair, ultimately proclaiming flatly that both leaders are "liars."

I then read about CBS news reporter David Hawkins, formerly of the NYTimes, who sneakily obtained interviews with a bunch of Iraquis who were aremed to the teeth and in search of U.S. servicement to kill. His piece was introduced by, you guessed it, none other than good ol' Dan Rather.

I will not hold my breath waiting for Hawkins or Rather to advise Centcom leaders of who and where these Iraqui assassins are so we can get them. The major media are Saddam-loving, anti-American, soup sandwiches bordering on being traitors. I rest my case.

The paper it appeared in is:

I have to laugh; either that or go out and do a Charlie Brown head-banging session on the nearest tree. I've lived in this place for 23 years.

1. Hey, Bob Boudelang lives!
I'm sure his closing sentiment was not "I rest my case," but rather "Arrest my case." I'd recognize Bob's signature style anywhere!

Let's see, the writer's point (and no, I'm not talking about the top of his head) seems to be that all the media are "leftist" because Greg Palast said that Blair and Bush are liars. Well, I suppose if they weren't, they could sue Palast for libel. I haven't heard of any court filings in that way, so I'm left to conclude that it's probably true. So, telling the truth is "leftist." Stunningly, I agree with the letter writer.

Then, there was a report in CBS News that there are armed Iraqis looking to kill American servicemen. Put another way, there are patriotic Iraqis who are looking to repel the illegal invaders who are currently occupying their country. Hmmm, almost sounds noble when you phrase it another way, doesn't it?

But the writer's all jacked up because instead of airing the interview, the reporter apparently should have scurried off to Central Command and called in a bombing run on the Iraqis' position, based on nothing more than the report of the Iraqis' stated intent. I'll not dignify his bloodlust with any further comment.

But the writer seems a bit confused about what a reporter's job is. I suggest he go back to third grade and pick up where he left off so many years ago in his educational pursuits. He can start with "Job Day" and will learn (to his great amazement, I'm sure) that reporters are not soldiers, and their job is not to do the soldiers' jobs for them.

If this is the level of discourse where you live, LWolf, I feel very sorry for you.

4. ROFLMAO
Yes, Bob Boudelang lives in my neighborhood. As a matter of fact, you can find Bobclones on every corner, in line at the grocery store, and everywhere you try to breathe around here. Some days, I feel sorry for me, too. This letter was actually more moderate than many. There are a few of us alien liberals around, but we don't speak up much. It isn't safe.

2. I read the incoming letters for my job
believe me this chip-implant victim is not alone. They all repeat the same programming, some of it is just of older vintage (the pukes have been brainwashing willing idiots for at least 20 years)

3. Isn't Palmdale's growth a result of massive exodus
of folk leaving L.A.? And isn't Palmdale a majority older white population? It says alot about the reason for the right wing wacko factor if true.

10. In the 80s it was.
In the 90s it became a more multi-ethnic exodus. If you want to hear some of California's most blantantly ugly rasist remarks, listen to some of the white flight people who resent the influx of "those people." Palmdale actually now has a majority of dems, and went for Gore in 2000. A huge shock to the greater Antelope Valley. The dems here are quiet, though, because the right-wing AV republican group controls much of the area, and I do mean controls it. They are the business owners, the politicians, and the powerbrokers. And they haven't forgotten the 2000 "insult." They've been hounding the 2 or 3 dem activists in the area unmercilessly. One is currently facing a trumped-up recall on the school board, although I don't think it will actually reach a vote; they don't have a legitimate leg to stand on.

Our 2 newest high schools are named after William J. "Pete" Knight, and one of the AVRA bigtime donors, a local personal injury attorney.

13. Ah yes...the man who
called the police in the house. My sympathies. Not that Buck McKeon is any better. You're a neighbor, relatively speaking.

7. Two examples proves it?
Read Alterman's book "What Liberal Media?" and get back to us.

After reading What Liberal Media? you will understand that the real news story of recent years is not whether this newspaper, or that news anchor, is biased but rather to what extent the entire news industry is organized to communicate conservative views and push our politics to the right—regardless of how “liberal” any given reporter may be. http://www.whatliberalmedia.com/bk_descript.htm

8. If you think the New York Times is as leftist
as Fox News is rightist, then you've obviously never seen a *real* leftist publication.

The bias of the New York Times is Establishment, which means liberal on some issues, conservative on others, whichever benefits the interests of the Big Boys at the moment.

9. Who's Sen. Baird?
And what does it mean to say he "was a ex-KKK Klansman?" That would mean that in the past a person was a former klansman, but is no longer one?

Welcome to DU, Canthus. But try proofing your posts a smidgen better. As it now reads, it doesn't make much sense.

11. You're as slanted as Fox is
For example: Senator Baird was a ex-KKK Klansman, who recruited for the Klan. Why in the world is he still in office? Becuase the media said little about it. And because he's a Democrat.

Bush did cocaine. He was a drunk and a drunk driver. His wife had an abortion. The media isn't interested in any of this, but if Bill Clinton's top jacket button is undone, he's a lecherous murderer.

Trent Lott made statements along the lines that Strom should have won in 1948, and he had to step down from his position as Majority leader. The fucker should be outright fired, but you don't see the "liberal" media calling for that.

Another example: Recently, Democrat Rep. Pete Stark recently used the words "Fruitcake" and "C*cksucker" to bash a republican. Um... if it had been the other way round, most media would have been on him like flies on crap for being a gay-basher.. nothing will be said becuase he's (supposedly) liberal.

Republicans regularly call anybody who doesn't agree with them "traitors" or "un-American"....yet the media parrots those charges with glee. When the Pentagon says dick, the media gladly recounts everything it hears...why would a "liberal" media be so interested in propping up the illegal war of the hated Republican?

Uhhhhhh....because there's no way in hell the media is anywhere near "liberal"!!!
