Can ANY "Liberal" that tells us to "Get over it" be trusted?
Whether its the 2000 theft, or the Invasion, can you possibly accept that End?

Are they really arguing for our cause?! Can they be?

We can safely assume that any Democrat that tells us to "get over" is probably in the back pockets of the same corporate fatcats that own Bush.

Doesn't fly with me one bit.

If they think there are more important matters at hand, they should express what those are. Otherwise......get out of our way! harumph!

3. They come from a different mind set than I do. It's not in my
DNA to let things like the 2000 selection and the illegal invasion go down the "memory hole". And I glad to find out there are others like me who feel that way, too.

:kick:

As for "can they be arguing for our cause?"... I don't think so but I've been surprised before.

Perhaps my dear, perhaps.

That said if I REALLY expressed (On the air) my views over the radio I'd be summarily executed (Really, I would be) and prolly get Guy shot too!

Fortunately I'm still shy once the mic is in front of my face...Of course I also want to keep co-hosting ( I LOVE IT!!!!!) so I'll gleefully bash bUsh and the Cabal till the cows come home.

There's too much to "get over". And most of it is core. This is an illegal administration. That means that our form of government is now at the greatest risk of dissolution since the Civil War.

Wouldn't you agree?

How many times have we watched the opportunities to correct this course, and air the truth, only to have our own leadership cower or cave. When will it be enough for you?

13. Why didn't the Dem activists who were there

Let's denounce a great liberal candidate by assuming the worst. Great idea.

15. I really don't understand the outrage
What can be done about the 2000 election now, three years after the fact? Nothing. Nothing at all.

I am still angry about what happened, but I know that I have to move on. We all have to move on. As difficult as it is wallowing in self pity over what happened will not help us.

And if that is the only thing we have to campaign on in 2004 then we deserve to lose.

We need to "get over it", at least in the sense of "moving on". I am still angry over what happened. It still upsets me but I am oriented toward the future.

17. 100% Agree
If you're talking about wallowing in our rage, then we certainly need to "get over it."

Personally, I think that the best way to put this behind us is to turn George W. Bush into America's latest unelected ex-president.

We talk a lot on these boards. I just hope that people are turning their anger into positive actions. If you've got local Democratic candidates running where you live, toss them a few bucks and volunteer on Election Day. Even at the local level, every time we deprive the Republicans of elected office (even Dog Catcher) we deprive them of a portion of the power base.

As they say on the cruise ship commercials, "Get Out There!"

But you recall the campaign to "let's just get over this and move on" that was used to shove it under the carpet? Why should we accept that same tone from those who should know better? I don't think it is healthy to forget it. It was a low moment in our nation's history.

23. That's actually not what he said, JanMichael.
He didn't say the act itself was nothing, he said there was nothing we could do to change the past.

We can only change the future. Carlos indicated he was still outraged about it, and anyone who's ever read him rail agains Nader know that.

But rather than 'get over it' he prefers to focus on 'moving on.' He quite rightly pointed out that as angry as we can be over past ills, we need to focus and move forward to win the future.

I'm not saying that it wasn't "egregious" or "unjust". What I am saying, Jan Michael, is that we need to move on. Yes what happened was bad but there is nothing that you and I can do to change the events of 12/12/00. Nothing at all.

The focus must be on the future, not on the past. Yes it angers me continously. But I can't go back in time and correct what happened either.

You're right...let's just act as if nothing ever happened and move on and vote Democratic down the line. :nuke:

And if that is the only thing we have to campaign on in 2004 then we deserve to lose.

Nope, now we can campaign on pandering to the American people on the Iraq war!!

35. Carlos seems to have a more sensible idea than you.
It's over. Do you have a time machine? Didn't think so. Carlos is right, don't rant and rave and bitch and dwell on the past. Learn from it and move on. You do realize that it's now over halfway through 2003, don't you?

By the way, accusing someone of being a Republican on these boards is against the rules, in case you didn't know. Not to mention it's just plain childish, but then I never really expected maturity from the likes of you. Throwing a tantrum when you can't get exactly what you want all the time is rather childish...

But, when you wake up in the morning, could you please clue the rest of us in on how Roosevelt's New Deal mostly "helped blacks?"

Please tell me exactly how the SEC, the FDIC, Social Security, the CCC, the CWA, the TVA, and the Indian Reorganization Act...just to name a few off the top of my head at damned near 2:00AM..."mostly helped blacks???"

You are one of the very few posters on DU that I am interested in seeing a response from. Mostly I could give a damn..but, this is just way too good to pass up.

By all means, if I am not awake yet..please do send me a PM. I can't wait to see this one.

34. They didn't get over Watergate...THEY ORGANIZED
and went underground and through the infrastucture and quietly dismantled unions, bankrupted citizen advocacy groups or made their advocacy so expensive they had to choose their battles wisely, infested what were otherwise liberal churches and created a ground war with single issues which issue when looked through the prism of individual rights versus moral absolutism served them in their mission to mobilize their vote according to church and rural community lines.

51. In the specific instances alluded to, yes

People like yourself keep on insisting on hitching the carts in front of the horses. Emotional Correctness always has to precede proper action, otherwise it's Wrong. And it seems to be Wrong because it doesn't add to prideful selfrighteousness and know-it-allism. That Inner Lenin / Inner Republican has to be overcome. Not everyone will meet your shibboleth.

In any war there's only so much graveside mourning and pious talk the battle dead require. They'd prefer for you to grab the weapons and improve the plans, follow the real leaders and win the next battle and the war. They do want you to 'get over it' in the particulars and live the faith in deeds and service to the cause, not theological harangues.

I've defended Kerry's statement previously and still do. And I do find Clinton's statement far smarter politics and wonderful treachery (three steps ahead of the selfrighteous know-it-alls around here) than the simple minded and Deanite/Green (oops, I repeat myself) head-of-steam lower-your-head-and-run-into-the-wall politics. Each has its place and time, that's what you excessively PCish sorts need to learn.

Just curious but what's so wrong with not using negative racial, ethnica and gender?

It's the only language they deal in

58. "trust" is maybe the wrong and loaded frame
Blindness and misjudgment is bad enough. "Not getting it" is also frustrating and dangerous given what WE believe is the far rreaching nature of the Coup. Misunderstanding and negating the enthusiasm of the Bush opposition is absurdly deadly, though it is a stock in tade of frontrunners to whip the troops into line and focus.

I don't think anyone, with the exception perhaps of Lieberman has dumbly sold out to an adminstration they don't fully understand yet. Nor has anyone found a clear front way to cope with ALL the horrors of the Coup considering where the mainstream public is left stranded.

I take it we mean Kerry here? He is beginning to try to sound like Muskie without remembering what happened to Muskie. In hindsight I certainly would have trusted Muskie. Only he got separated from too much of the energized anti-war electorate and high expectations which could only doom his efforts. You can sucker yourself into defeat this way and we need candidates at least cannier than this. Kerry will do the right things in office. I DO trust that, imperfections or compromises aside.)

(I am NOT implying that Dean is "McGovern", only that ALL the Dems have an electability problem if they don't see more clearly what is going on.)

61. Here's how I see it...
"Ow! You kicked me in the nads!"
"Can I borrow a fiver?"
"You just kicked me in the nads!"
"Look, that's a different issue. What's at stake here is whether I can borrow 5 bucks."
"My balls are bruised!"
"You're living in the past. Whether your nads were kicked or just became sore, who did the kicking if it happened - that's over. It was a long time ago. You're just trying to change the subject away from money."
"I'm doubled over in pain!"
"I wish you'd stop dwelling on something the majority of us are no longer concerned about. We'll probably never know what really happened. Let it go! It's just not productive to keep dragging up that old ball-kicking rumour in a discussion about loans. Nobody cares! Ancient history!"
.
.
.
So I think that's a "No."

63. Yes

Just as Republican whining resulted in the opposition party losing House seats for the first time in over a century during an off-year election in 1998, they are worried continued screaming about 2000 will be seen as whining as well. And people don't vote for whiners.

Personally, I think we should limit our complaint regarding election 2000 to the illegal disenfranchisement of blacks. Blacks just may feel a little sensitive about their voting rights having fought so hard just forty years ago to obtain those rights in many environs. While Whites (re: swing voters) will mostly see this as a "Black Thing" and give it little attention. So this one item could motivate a lot of black voters while doing little to turn off the swing vote.

65. Depends on your Goals
If your goal is to tak power away from George W. Bush and win the election in 2004, then "get over it" is good advice.

However, if your goal is to wallow is misery over what happened in the past, to cry over spilled milk, to complain about the current status rather than try to change it, to suck the life out of everyone that cares about our country, then by all means, don't get over it.
