Should we pull the troops out of Iraq ?
From the appearance of the news reports today, including Paul Bremer's, it seems that Bush is in a hurry to get out of Iraq. We should encourage him to get our troops out as fast as he safely can but not to leave a mess just for the sake of his political campaign.

In my opinion, they have no intention of getting out of Iraq. They only want the voters to "think" they are getting out of Iraq. This is their political manipulation of the war. Democrats should not fall for this little Rovian trick. We should encourage the withdrawal of our troops as soon as possible.

Too many troops have died already for Bush's Folly. We know he wasn't looking for terrorists in Iraq. It was a personal mission for him - "he tried to kill my Daddy" - or some such ridiculous reason. There was never a legitimate reason for him to invade Iraq. Yes, let's get th4e troops out of there.

1. The longer we are there, the bigger the mess will be
AWOL and his minions have no interest in doing anything other than raping resources, getting votes from PNACers and people who like to blow up brown people, and companies who are war profiteering. The Iraqis consider us infidels who are there to do harm. They will join forces amongst themselves long enough to run us out of the country.

The quicker we are gone, the better.

It will descend into chaos and civil war regardless of whether we are there six months or six years (see: news today). The only thing that stopped it before was Saddam Hussein, the brutal military dictator who we installed to keep civil wars from happening and to ensure the flow of oil 35 years ago.

Will the CIA find another Saddam? Probably.

2. I don't think we should pull all of our troops
I feel we should get as much foreign help as we can so we can bring back a substantial number of our troops, but pulling them out entirely right now would make the region even less stable. Without any real central authority in Iraq right at the moment, the country could fall into total anarchy, and the potential for someone like Pol Pot to come into power is greatly increased if we simply left it up to the Iraqis. As Bill Maher said: "Iraq is our rape baby, and we have to support it the best we can."

We shouldn't have gone in the first place, but as every Democratic candidate has said (with the exception of Kucinich and Sharpton), pulling out would be a big mistake.

4. Okay and how would us leaving stabilize the region?
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 06:11 PM by Neo Progressive
Do you want me to bring up Afghanistan? We simply cut our losses and abandoned the region. What happened afterwards led to much of the anti-American sentiment felt by that region. Thanks to us bringing everyone home too soon, radicals like the Taliban were able to take over, and shit like 9-11 happened.

Yes I know the region was stable before we entered, but it's not stable now, and would be even less stable as I said in my previous post on the matter.

8. IT WOULDNT
We have screwed up royally and only THEY can put their country back together after whatever chaos they have to go through to get there.

Why is it that Americans including some DUers think we can go solve everyone's problems???

I don't get it.

5. Yes but
let Halliburton and Bechtel keep paying for their
private military out of their own paycheck, not ours.

6. Yes! Period!
Let the Council handle things. As soon as we leave the Iraqi people will rise up against the loyalists. Oh, but then, we took their weapons.

10. Inform the UN that American troops will withdraw from Iraq
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 09:14 PM by rustydog
in X-number of days (weeks, whatever) and that they need to put together a multinational peace-keeping force.
We should tell the UN that America will provide 90% of the funding of the internaitonal troops and all of the rebuilding costs.
(America should insist on opening bidding for rebuilding to all interested companies with preference to iraqi civilian companies)

Any semblence of withdraw is a Bush* ploy in an election year. Right now, Bush (PNAC) will not relinquish its stranglehold on the oil and strategic mid-east locale. don't forget the PERMANENT military bases being built by Brown & Root! Bush plans to be there for generations to come.
The problem is, they thought Iraqis would be a push-over and are finding out just how stupid Rummy, Colin, Rice, Perle, Wolfowitz, Cheny and Bolton truly are.

Yes, we should have gotten out yesterday.

Get out now!!

Let's use some of that money to rebuild our schools and provide our country with healthcare for starters.

Edited because I just can't spell when I am thinking about the stupidity of OUR government.
