Did anyone watch the Law & Order SVU tonight?
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 02:21 AM by La_Serpiente
I am watching it right now and I am really enjoying it. It talks about a gay man who became straight and then went gay again that got killed. He also was receiving hate mail from bigots. The bigots were all from Nebraska.

Anyhow, it is good they are putting this to the forefront. It is about time America face up to this issue that has been avoided for so long.

I am assuming B.D. Wong persuaded the producers and directors to do this show.

He's the forensic scientist on the show.

4. He is...
but he travels to picket the funerals of gays, or anyone else he hates, like Virginia Kelley (Clinton's mother).

3. I won't ruin it for you
but it was very good. Just wait until you see the doctor's son he is cute. I wouldn't want to be NBC's receptionist tomorrow though.

5. Law and Order does a gay murder every once in a while
I'm not sure it's always SUV. Next week Olivia Bensen is the suspect according to the teaser. I looooove Mariska Hargitay. She has such huge eyes.

6. The original Law and Order
has done several. One of the very first episodes was an AIDS sufferer who hired a man to kill him. Two gay council men have been killed on there. And lately there have even been some where the gay angle was irrelevent (one was a lawyer who had found money without telling his client).

7. I taped it earlier...
Just finished watching it. Very disturbing. The Phelps character was as evil a being as one could dream of.

I suppose by this time you've finished watching it so this isn't any kind of spoiler.

Wong is an interesting character. I like him.

8. B. D. Wong is so wonderful
Great actor and a great human being. Have you ever heard him talk about his son?

9. Oh yes
Following Foo is his book. I didn't read it, but I heard about it. His partner is Richie Jackson (I think).

His breakout in acting was when he played the transfestite on Madame Butterly in 1988. He was one of the youngest recipients of the Tony Award.

10. yes indeed ... and a question

btw, there's a thread in civil rights at the moment about "reparative" therapy, in which the point is made in real life that was made in SVU -- the damn stuff can actually be "good", by helping people to realize and be happy with the fact that they're gay/lesbian. It ends up being aversion therapy alright -- aversion to the therapy.
;)

Anyhow, the question I asked the co-vivant as we sat in our Canadian living room:

What does the right wing watch on teevee in the US?

The big US prime-time dramas are all "liberal" -- the various Law & Orders, West Wing, ER ... uh, those are all I can speak for at the moment, 'cause I don't watch the B list (CSIs, JAGs, NYPD Blue, and so on down) ... and actually the original L&O has gone to hell in a handbasket and SVU is often crappy ... but anyhow. And in fact I did watch a JAG once, and it was about a woman officer who had a revelation about women's reality and rights when forced to wear chador in Saudi Arabia, and the lower-ranking woman who was being court-martialled for refusing to do it ... so even *it* was "liberal".

And then there are all the cable-y ones like The Sopranos and The Shield and Sex and the City, that are all violent and/or vulgar.

So what do those folks watch? Fox talk shows, and reality TV, exclusively? Surely if they watched prime-time Hollywood, they'd be dropping like flies from ulcers and blown gaskets.
