DU presidential primary poll report
Edited on Wed Jul-23-03 02:54 PM by bluestateguy
This is not necessarily the final report on the poll, unless DUers want it to be. I promise no more empty kicks of the poll and if it's DU's will for the poll to drop into the archives, so be it.

314 DUers voted in the "Bluestateguy Poll" conducted July 22-23. I have included write-ins in the total.

Howard Dean 121 votes, 39%
Dennis Kucinich 60 votes, 19%
John Kerry 54 votes, 17%
John Edwards 17 votes, 5%
Bob Graham 12 votes, 4%
Wesley Clark 8 votes, 2% (write-in)
Joe Lieberman 7 votes, 2%
Carol Mosely Braun 4 votes, 1%
Al Gore 3 votes, 1% (write-in)
Al Sharpton 2 votes, 1%
Dick Gephardt 1 votes, 0%
Undecided 25 votes, 8%

edit: new numbers

1. If Dean's people and Kucinich's people could work together...
We would have some serious power. I'm a Kucinich person, and I'd like to make some common cause with the Dean people.

I need to see Dean make the issues that Kucinich people talk about - jobs, corporate power, NAFTA and the corporate globalization agreements - his issues too. I'd like to see Dean make these a serious priority in his campaign. Any takers?

2. I Agree, Dean Should be More of a Populist

it would help him like it helped Gore. He would be a good spokesman for many of those positions. I think he's too conservative to go for all of them.

5. What I'd suggest is that you make your appeals
to the campaign itself, via the Official Blog.

6. I'm not sure being openly populist is a winner.
It would probably be better for the Dean people to emphasize economic prosperity to the general public, and then deal with the labor issues once he is in office. Otherwise, he will come off as a New England socialist rather than a common-sense moderate. Perhaps his campaign can think up "code" language for his voters with labor interests similar to the subtle anti-black language the GOP gives to its base sometimes.

3. There are no archives on DU2. Threads are live forever unless locked.
Just thought I'd point that out.

Interesting poll results

4. Interesting numbers...
...and quite desirable, as my first four preferences, in order, are Dean, Kucinich, Moseley-Braun, and Kerry.

Actually, it would be even more interesting to hold a poll in Condorcet or Approval, just to see who's got a big tent and who's a good compromise candidate among the various wings and camps of the Democratic party.
