Kerry spanks Bush on Liberia...
July 22, 2003 - Statement by Senator John Kerry on Liberia
Tuesday July 22, 2003

John Kerry said, "The humanitarian crisis in Liberia has become even more violent and tragic over the past few days, and it requires the immediate engagement of the international community and the United States. The Bush Administration has offered no plan to help end the increasing violence in spite of the pleas of the people of Liberia and the community of nations for the United States to demonstrate leadership.

Taking act in Liberia is the right thing to do, not only because of our special historical link to the country, but because failing states pose a direct threat to our national security.   If we've learned anything from watching failed states in Afghanistan turn into terrorist hotbeds, we should know that it's in our security interests to respond to the chaos in Liberia before another breeding ground for terrorism and transnational crimes is created.

We must halt this cycle of death by working in partnership with the global community, instead of turning away as the Bush Administration has done again and again."

2. If you are a Repub...
If you are a Republican, it seems like you can rationalize away the WMD arguements and 45min threat and fall back on Humanitarian reasons as the real reason we invaded Iraq. But heavens to Betsy, if it's a humanitarian crisis unfolding in front of our eyes, on the tele, it's somehow ok to just let the civilians be slaughtered and then cry crocodile tears saying how we can't be everywhere.

If I was a Republican, I might think that maybe "they went in only for the oil" might actually have some credibility to it. Then again, It's rare for most Republicans to actually think on their own. They need to be told what to think.

6. You should make sure to read Kerry's foreign policy
speeches, at Georgetown and over the many years at www.johnkerry.com

His philosophy is pretty consistent. Help embattled poor nations with their infrastructures, access to education and healthcare and you'll pretty much eliminate the rabid unrest.

3. 2 reasons to get this month's Rolling Stone...
First, is the harrowing story of the drugged out cannibal child soldiers in Liberia - truly a human tragedy is unfolding there.

Second, a certain candidate is included in a panel discussing the Iraq aftermath. Here's a hint: Kerry agrees with his stance on Liberia :-)

OK, maybe a third - if you're an Angelina Jolie fan...?

4. What are our "fearless" macho leader & his vaunted CEO's waiting for?
Why the vacillation on their part? What are they waiting for? Remember when Bush said, "They won't act, we will".

As a result of their vacillation, it may be too late now to go in--the danger is much greater to our troops and to the Liberian people--than it was two weeks ago.

Shame on the Bush administration inaction! They are NOT the grownups--they talk the talk, but hesitate when it is time to step up to the plate and ACT!
