Well, I had to do it. I had an hour and a half drive to visit my brother, and I had to turn on talk radio. I was doing fine, until one fine lady called and was complaining about how the "librul" media was reporting each soldier's death and that this was undermining the war effort. With that, my head exploded! I picked up my car phone, and called the show.
While I was on hold for around thirty minutes, a special report came on the radio which stated that Saddam's sons had been killed. Mark Davis gleefully got back on the from break, and stated "what will Mr. Graham and Mr. Rockefeller say now." Shit, what more could set me off!
Finally, I got on. First, I pointed out that the media wasn't truly liberal, and of course, Clinton came up. I said that Clinton's lie didn't amount to anything compared to Bush's. Davis yelled at me to answer the question why Clinton was impeached and said he wouldn't let me off. I finally caved and said something to the effect "he lied under oath." He said WRONG, HE COMMITTED PERJURY! He also spun the SOU, and said essentially it had nothing to do about uranium from Niger.
I was able to collect myself and point out how Graham and Rockefeller had been very restrained through all of this. I stated that there wasn't anything unreasonable about asking for an independent investigation. Davis really attacked Graham, saying that he had the AUDACITY to use the "I" word. I responded by stating that Graham was asked a question, and answered that with the standards that have been set for impeachment that it could be possible. From my impression, Davis didn't want the president to be questioned or held accountable for anything.
Our conversation really wasn't too abrasive. He keep talking about my "bigotry," for instance when he mentioned Fox News and I sneered, "Fox News, that's an oxymoron." He even gave me the last word. I said that we have a ruthless dictator ninety miles off of our coast (to borrow Bartcop) and we weren't invading him. And I closed that we would hold this president accountable for not finding WMDS and nuclear materials. He thanked me, and we ended on a cordial note.
Symbolman, I know how you feel, man. When I saw you on O'Reilly, I kept yelling at my TV set for you to counter an argument of O'Reilly's. It's really tough, and while I was talking to Davis, I could see all DUers yelling at their radios while I was on the air.
It was really exhilarating, and hopefully next time I will be more prepared.
