Clinton phones Bob Dole on Larry King Live
The show turned into a love fest with Clinton telling Dole how much he loves him as a person, and how much he admires Dole as a good American. "And Dole cares about the little people -- he cared about the people of Bosnia and Kosovo," Clinton said, recounting how Dole, who ran against him in the election, put aside politics to stand before Congress and support Clinton's sending troops into Bosnia. The two men genuinely sounded as if they like each other.

It makes me long for the old days when Democrats and Republicans really could put aside politics and work together for the good of the country.

2. This is the right time to spotlight the rancor btwn parties
The only problem is that the Dems are the only ones with ears.

6. Oh he does, just not in public speeches
Clinton wants to appear (or actually is) above that sort of thing. Badmouthing someone in public that is. But Hillary mentioned many things in her book that show a pretty pissed off man.

7. Who is at fault for the rancor between parties?
The GOP! I think Clinton was always ready to work with them. But Monica-gate turned the GOP into a bunch of salivating, rabid neocons who wanted only blood and more blood.

Hearing Clinton on Larry King reminded me that he was never willing to get down to the neocon's gutter level. But these days, alas, call for matching viciousness.

10. I'n not sure how to answer but
my use of the word is totally low brow. I was stationed at Chaumont Air Base, France(courtesy of Uncle Sugar) for two years beginning in 1958, back in the days of wooden airplanes and iron men.

3. Brought Smiles
It was great hearing the Big Dog and without a doubt left me longing for politicians that respected each other.

5. I'm ok with that, Bob Dole is a good man
He really is. Despite politics, Bob Dole is a stand-up American who always tried to stand up for what he believed in. I respect that.

11. Clinton's magnanimity is what makes Dole look good
Dole went on TV to call for an independent council.... the day Clinton's mother died.

But if President Clinton can forgive him, I guess we should too. I think because those two guys are out of office, they don't want to get into all of that political crap. They actually like each other. As for senators Hillary and Liz, I don't know. Btw, how come no one ever talks about Senator Dole?

13. Oh, PHOOEY
Clinton and Dole are both good men. There was an article earlier today concerning Jimmy Carter and Dole, as well as Ford. Those were all good men, and I would be PROUD to call any of them my president today.

I long for the days when we simply had a PRESIDENT!! I'd take Reagan gladly, and I don't think even NIXON would have tried this BUSH*T.

Even Big Daddy Bush didn't try to bring on Armageddon.

Just give me a chance to VOTE. That's all I'm asking for. A fair chance to VOTE!

15. I second that...
I disagree with him a lot, and he can be pretty mean, but I was totally behind him on Bosnia. If we had intervened sooner, we could have prevent hundreds of thousands of murders and rapes.

Sending troops in to stop the bad guys is a good thing. It is the highest honor to sacrifice for an ideal. The problem is this time, we fought a right war for the wrong reasons. If the reason was told to the american people that we want simply to liberate Iraq, then by god, mission accomplished. The trouble is, that is a harder thing to get people to agree to. Liberating others means you accept a sacrifice. This administration took an easy way out. They sold a war on fear. Americans were told that they could only save their own hides from the terrorists if we took out Saddam Hussein, and the lie was repeated in as many ways as possible.

This was a war fought for political gain.

(george w bush _is_ fear itself)

16. Richard Cohen made just that point
he said this war could've been justified for humanitarian or other reasons but that's not the route Bush took. He cynically manipulated intelligence instead and used fear. BTW, welcome to DU!

18. Oh please
Dole is a great American. Some of the things they worked together on include the ADA, keeping food stamps, and Bosnia. Plus Dole is hilarious.
