ATM stolen with 'borrowed' crane over in Tulsa this morning while people
watched. On local TV - report. Somebody started up a crane across the street from a bank, drove it over to the ATM machine and ripped it off its foundation...dropped it into a pickup truck and drove off. Several witnesses stood by and watched.

I am not making this up.

5. As long as they didn't take cuts
I hate when they do that to the machine just before my turn!

7. Yeah, same here.
A few years ago there was a story about how an armored truck was robbed in Oakland, CA. Seems one of the perps dropped onto the truck from an overpass, cut a hole in the roof, dropped in, grabbed the bags, climbed back up on the roof, his (I presume, they were never caught) partner in crime pulled up alongside, he tossed in the bags, jumped in himself and away they sped. Those guys are my heroes. Well, not really, Jim Jeffords is my hero, but you do have to give them points for spunk.

2. When we lived in Corona, some guys tried to steal one

Here was their plan...

Hooked a chain to their pick-up.
Tried to drag it off its foundation
Could not..
They drove off..

Left the truck bumper and chain still attached to the atm..

the LICENSE PLATE was attached to the bumper...

DUH :)

3. Not surprising to me
I discovered a long time ago that you can do just about anything if you put on a hard hat and do it in front of the largest crowd of people possible.

Clip boards and white lab coats are good props too.

6. LOL! You're right......and you reminded me of something
When I was working for the Tulsa PD going to college, one night some burglars put on uniforms, broke into a Savings & Loan, turned on every light in the place (with big picture windows)...2 of them vacuumed the carpet and 2 others blew the safe. Several cops drove by and the guys inside waved. Next morning they found out the safe had been cleaned out.

9. smart crooks are a rarity (outside the bush admin, of course)
but you have to admire that kind of chutzpah (sp?) even while hoping they get some decent prison time.

8. a college fraternity took the persian rug out of the
Muehlbach Hotel lobby in Kansas City.. It was a prank.. they rented a panel truck and uniforms.. They went right in.. moved the chairs..said hello to the desk clerks and rolled the rug up.. Now , they would be sent to prison, but back then it was just a joke and the rug was returned in perfect condition, but no one challenged them
