Florida's Retirement Population
The three major counties in S. Florida are

Palm Beach
Broward
Dade

In which county do most of the retirees live in? Where do most of the Jewish retirees live?

1. Wasn't it Palm Beach where they all voted for Pat Buchanan
on the now infamous butterly ballot, instead of Al Gore? This was an especially bitter defeat because Pat Buchanan is anti-semitic.

4. I've heard the term before from Floridians
including long time white residents presumably talking about themselves. Is it racial or just defining a demography, like calling certain Texans cowboys? Just asking.

5. I'm not from Florida
so I have no idea. But I wouldn't consider Cowboy to have any racial tones or derogatory meaning to it. Cracker clearly does.

6. It does have a derogatory meaning?!?
Gee, I guess we'll all have to stop celebrating Cracker Day Weekend here in Northeast Florida! We didn't know! Shucks! No more weekend fair with barrel racing, cow riding, and every other fun Cracker Day event. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

7. Started out as a "crack" but now they use the term themselves.

Even the people in my area now call themselves "Southern Crackers." Kind of means they're "real" Southerners - not "Snowbirds."

Confederate Crackers and Cavaliers

This is Grady McWhiney at his finest. Confederate
Crackers and Cavaliers is a collection of seventeen
essays on a wide variety of topics relating to Confederate
leadership and war-making.

The role of culture in the coming of the war is explored
in depth as are the differences between Southern "Crackers"
and "Cavaliers." Battlefield leadership is also discussed,
including pieces on A. P. Hill, P. G. T. Beauregard, Braxton
Bragg, and Leonidas Polk.
