3. The Kursk
She sank when the 98% pure H2O2 in one of her torpedos leaked and caused a fire followed quickly by explosions of torpedo warheads in the forward torpedo room. She went to the bottom massively damaged. Although she had an escape capsule, surviving crew members were not able to get it to launch. They were forced by flooding into a single compartment where they all died in cold and darkness within hours.

Divers reach sunken Kursk submarine
Specialist diving equipment is being used to reach the sunken Kursk submarine

MOSCOW, Russia -- Divers have reached the sunken Russian nuclear submarine Kursk in an effort to retrieve the bodies of its 118 crew members.

The Russian navy says divers operating from the offshore platform Regalia have descended more than 100 metres (300 feet) below the surface of the icy Barents Sea and plan to enter the submarine after cutting holes in its body.

(snip)

The operation using Russian and Norwegian deep-sea divers is being conducted by the Norwegian arm of U.S. oil services firm Halliburton from the company's Regalia platform, which arrived on site on Friday.

What a coincidence. The construction arm of the CIA just happened to be in the area.
