Germany: Work on Holocaust Memorial Stopped over Degussa Role
"Work on Berlin’s much-delayed Holocaust memorial has been halted following objections to the participation of chemicals maker Degussa, which once had a unit involved in the production of poison for Nazi death camps."
Deutsche Welle
Have to add that IIRC they were involved in reworking the gold, too.

My personal overall impression is that this memorial is much more about germans celebrating the germans and how well "we" have accepted and worked through our past... It's not about the victims, although I highly admire Lea Rosh. She really said (Deutsche Welle is a bit questionable sometimes): "After one woman, whose family died in Ausschwitz told me that she would never ever enter this memorial, if Degussa is involved, the discussion among us was finished. There was nothing left to discuss for us, the decision was clear." I watched her saying this on T.V.
Hello from Germany,
Dirk

2. I just feel sorry for you...
Is your question really serious about WHY it gets so much publicity and sympathy, are you really serious? Did you ever study it?
There's no doubt that crimes against humanity were used, are used and will be used, will be instrumentalized by people. And if someone has good reasons and arguments for that matter, he should be allowed to speak. But your post is simply ignorant and annoying. I didn't mention Israel, you did it. And you somehow have connected Isreal to the victims of he Shoa. You seriously NEED a real working memorial for Ausschwitz that explains to people like you, what is was.
I don't want to offend you personally, I just beg you to really think about your attitude.
You mentioned Israel, so I comment on this: whatever the Israelis might do and have done to the Palestines, however you might judge it. They have every right on earth to be afraid. They have much more reasons to be afraid, to be aggressive, to defend themselves.
And to comment like this about the simple fact that one of those companies that produced and delivered the poison the nazis used to kill the jews, now is involved in the building of the Memorial in Berlin? Please switch your brain on.
Greetings from Germany,
Dirk

4. It hurts me to write this, but even your post sounds...

(I hope I don't get misunderstood, but it's really hard for me to find words)...
as if the Shoa was a kind of preemptive strike against... Against what?
You completely reverse history. I don't know, if Israel would even exist withouth the Shoa. And the Nazis defined "the" "jews" as some kind of race, and the conclusion that Israel might be some kind of "ethnic" state is a conclusion out of this.
And I just remind you of what my initial post was about: it was about an old woman, who was confronted with the fact that a large german chemical corporation, who delivered Zyclon B to the concentration camps is involved in building the Memorial in Berlin right now. What kind of reaction is this?
If I would live in America today, I wouldn't support Bush. I'm a german and I don't support the neoliberal bullshit of Schröder, but I just have to be a human being, to understand why a lot of jews support Sharon. I simply just understand it.
Dirk
