America is 40% conservative ... well, according to this article - which takes a decidedly pro-democratic stance while criticizing the right and it's charge of "liberal media."

Assault on American liberals - Liberal-bashing is the name of the game for US media, which ironically is also stuck with the liberal tag

It is not necessary to resort to four-letter words to vilify someone in America. Just take a deep breath and call them a liberal. They will be horrified. It is among the worst insults imaginable.

When President George W. Bush's Republican Party members want to deride his Democrat challengers, they call them liberals.

They refer to Dr Howard Dean as 'an ultra-liberal on social issues'.
Congressman Richard Gephardt is the 'keeper of the liberal flame'.
Senator John Kerry is 'a Massachusetts liberal out of touch with America'. Last week, General Wesley Clark was chastised in an opinion piece in The Washington Post for his 'mainstream-liberal policies'.

The irony is that the newspaper, like most American media outlets, is also accused of being infiltrated by insidious lefties and other assorted liberal thinkers.

7. i don't get it: the USA is a liberal democracy...

like Britain, Canada, Oz, NZ, France, Germany (ie most of Europe) large part of S. America, iraq etc....
