Some Chucklehead "Keyed" our Jeep.
Just because we display anti-war stickers on the car, someone feels justified in vandalizing it. It first happened with a hammer dent to the passenger door when the car was brand-new.

I cannot imagine doing that to someone else simply because they might choose to express their views with stickers.

Mari and I aren't mad--we have larger problems to deal with, but why do people feel they have license to do that?

1. Violence, destruction and insults are the last resort...
of someone who has lost the debate.

Little solace, I know, but know they have lost. They just haven't accepted it yet, that's all...

2. In the New America...
...you don't have the right to be wrong.

You only have the right to be right.

Welcome to the One-Party State.

3. Anger shows they're afraid they are wrong.
The madder someone acts, the stupider they usually become. When it comes to politics, something as simple as a license plate can send the loony over the edge to the point of wrecking someone else's car or even hurting another person.

I'm from Michigan, too. A large percentage of people, thanks to the corrupt media and underfunded public eduation, are seriously limited intellectually, as well. Add to that their feeling of powerlessness, and they do the dumbest things.

Really sorry about your Jeep. One word of advice: Drop the license plate graphic from your post. Some FREEPER might grab the info and use it for an even more nefarious scheme.

6. As to the license plate ...
... I've been trying to use it with discrimination, but can't figure out how I can just use it "now and then" as I please. I like the signature, but sometimes it's best to just post words without being obnoxious with graphics. I just don't know how to subdue it.

8. Oh no, no, no...
Brother Hogarth, I did not mean to imply there was anything wrong with the graphic or its size. It is a wonderful message, stark in the truth of beauty. In fact, I wish I'd thought of getting it done first.

My concern is for your safety. One poster ran a personalized plate a few months ago and respondents said that it should be taken down because the repukes were known to grab the numbers and use them in various ways, like... bad things.

4. I hate to say it but this is nothing
Wait until the Brownshirts feel emboldened and wait until the Busheviks have reduced their opposition a couple more notches and all Busheviks start to feel emboledened like the Bushevik Anthrax Assassin or like the KKK in 1931 Mississippi.

I don't mean to alarm you, the future is by no means written (and luckily we are in Amerika 2003 and not Germany 1933), but some degree of Nazi/Soviet-style madness seems to be very possible within the next 30 years, perhaps much sooner.

As to why people feel they have a liscense to do something like that, I think you know the answer which lies as near and as far back in human history as we can imagine.

I most ferverently hope that I am wrong.

7. I had decided to move away from the USA before things got this
bad and it made me sad to do it... now I think it is the right thing for me to do. I love America (but not Amerika) and I tend to agree with you. Things have reached an ugly state. But I intend to vote by absentee ballot (I hope they count those votes!)
By the way, did you watch Michael Moore's speech in San Francisco on the Democracy Now! site? I watched it today at noon and I think he conveys our concerns very well. He is a good speaker. If you haven't watched it, do it now. It is good.

5. This is a criminal act
If I found somebody vandalizing my car I would treat it as a violent attack on me, and I would respond accordingly. I believe the law should allow people to defend attacks on their property as an attack on their persons.

18. are you sure it was the stickers and not the jeep itself?
Edited on Fri Oct-24-03 01:23 AM by bearfartinthewoods
the whole gas guzzling thing? maybe someone was ticked off by the whole SUV thing? it is sort of ironic to have anti oil war signs on a car with high oil/gas consumption. there are people burning down whole dealerships over this issue.

11. It's a battle of words
and most of them are wrong. The same type of people that burn SUVs and spray-tag non-hybrid cars are the ones that do this act. It sucks no matter which side you are on.

14. Roger Waters, right?
"Haven't you heard?... it's a battle of words,
And most of them are lies."

"Us and Them," from the 1973 release "Dark Side of the Moon."

Great song, by the way.

If it is indeed a "battle of words," use the appropriate ones, please.

You? Me? Us? Them? Who?

20. Not quite the right lyrics
but I had got them wrong too. The first line is right; I thought the second was:
"A poster paradise"
(which seemed to make sense to me - there used to be a shop I bought posters from, called that - and they did sell ones from 70s album covers).
But the 'net thinks (and having just listened to it again, I think they're right) it's:
"the poster bearer cried"
which does actually rhyme with the next couple of lines:
"Listen son", said the man with the gun
"There's room for you inside."

I agree it's a great song; I've also had the lyrics of 'Money' going around in my head for the last couple of days, as a pithy comment on the Worst Administration Ever - "Don't give me that do goody good bullshit", "Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie" etc.
