Why does Denny Hastert never get any criticism...
From anybody. It seems like the guy is loved by Republicans and loved by Democrats even more. Is it the fact that he's Speaker and you are suppoased to show certain respect for somebody in that position or is it just that Tom DeLay is such an easy target that we forget about him?

1. Both, really
I think Franken or Hightower once described him as an "affable nincompoop".

2. Nobody really takes him seriously
Most people think of DeLay as the most powerful Republican in the House, and Hastert also pales in comparison to Frist and Bush.

3. Would you even bother yelling at Bert...
... for doing something stupid if you could see Frank Oz hanging out of his butt?

Hastert's freedom from criticism is a tribute to the extent that DeLay is the real force in the house.

4. He's the only one the Repukes could
come up with that didn't have a "problem person" in his/her background. So help me, that is supposedly true. Remember, at the time all the Repukes were falling like flies after their accusations of Clinton and suddenly one by one, the Repukes were going down over their own "little problems"

8. Hastert seems like a straight shooter..

He's not a thug like DeLay, and not as overtly partisan as Newt was. He's kind of like a conservative you'll never agree with, but at least appears civil. I don't know, that's just my impression.

9. Sockpuppet for DeLay
Really, you'd have to do something to get critized or praised.....I think he's just DeLay's front my in the House....a kinder, gentler face who wields no power in his position.

11. I have had this suchmck for my congressman for years
I have worked on 4 campaigns against him. Why don't more people have a problem with Hastert? He doesn't do anything! His entire resume was to secure $385k for a study on cafinated chewing gum for Wrigley.
