Bush can kiss California goodbye in 2004
Bush Popularity Sinks in California, Poll Finds
Thu Jul 17,12:01 AM ET Add Politics - Reuters to My Yahoo!

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California voter approval of President Bush (news - web sites)'s performance has dropped sharply since the Iraq (news - web sites) war, a poll released on Thursday found.

A Field poll of 788 Californians in the first two weeks of July found that 49 percent approved of Bush's job performance, down from 61 percent in April, and 74 percent after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. In the survey, 41 percent disapproved of the president's work.

Areas of growing dissatisfaction included the economy and the job Washington is doing in making Iraq a stable country. Yet more than three-quarters of those polled said they were either somewhat or very satisfied by the job the U.S. military did in overthrowing Saddam Hussein (news - web sites).

Bush won 41.6 percent of the vote in California -- the nation's biggest electoral prize -- in the 2000 election, far behind the 53.4 percent taken by former Vice President Al Gore (news - web sites).

1. This is not a big help.
Gore got all the electoral votes in the last election and the Democrats most likely will in the next one. However, I hope this disgust trickles over to the red states.
