Bush and Blair Part Ways on WMDs
As the leader of the Free World stumbled and fumbled for the right right words, Tony Blair brought a new card to the table. He said it really didn't matter if we found WMDs or not, because it was the right thing to do anyway. They knew he had gotten all the WMDs and nuclear stuff in the 80's and 90's. So it's no big deal if WMDs are not found.

Meanwhile, the bumbling US leader insisted that he "believed" that Saddam had WMDs and was reconstituting his nuclear program. He "believes" we find them sooner or later. We will know the truth, he said. He also "believes" in God and he agreed with Tony Blair that it was the right thing to do.

Thomas Friedman, the foreign affairs columnist for The New York Times, played this card immediatedly after the war in a piece called The Meaning of a Skull.

He was pilloried for it, as Blair should be.
