MD diagnoses GWB with ADD on MWO
Fascinating letter on today's MWO by David M. Loucas, M.D. Some excerpts:

Part of the answer is that the president has a mental disability that is severe, limiting and, (through no fault of his own) makes him ill suited and unfit to carry out the responsibilities of his office. There is just no way to tiptoe around this fact... What we have is the Curriculum Vitae of someone who has Attention Deficit Disorder. Much like in the Peter Sellers classic, 'Being There', George W. Bush mechanically goes through the motions of being president without having a clue at times as to what he is doing or even what he is saying...he is limited to the language and syntax of a seven year old...There are those who revel in having access and control over a person like Mr. Bush because in an oxymoronic sense his very rigidity makes him compliant for their own self-serving means. There are others who at some subliminal level feel sorry for Bush, and are willing to overlook his complete ineptitude, because he is so non compos mentis. To the later group I say: Wake up; snap out of it. This guy's going to ruin all of our lives for decades to come, and then go back to his patrician, privileged life in Texas. Impeachment of Bush is an act of self-preservation.

Well worth reading in full!

1. Mike Malloy last night
Mike Malloy was saying he was seriously wondering if * has Alzheimer's or some from of mental disease being he doesn't seem to remember that the inspectors were in Iraq!

He seemed quite serious about it. Maybe he/they are right!

4. It's his narcissisic personality disorder
that makes him have contempt for the truth, reality, the other guy, etc. etc.

It isn't a memory problem........

16. AIDS Dementia could also be an explanation...
Skolnick said months ago Bush* had AIDS. He could very well have it. Not to mention all the little "health" problems he has had.

3. I think the doctor is right
Isn't it ironic that the Republicans want power so badly that they gave us one President with Alzheimer's and another with ADD?

Remember when Mandela said that Bush couldn't think properly? He was right.

Right now the media should have lots of pundits interviewing doctors and politicians etc. about why Bush would say something so bizarre. It's obvious Bush thought he was telling the truth. And it's just as obvious that what he said was known to be factually incorrect by the whole world.

Why is this not front page headlines?

6. the difference between Bush and the ADD/HD people whom I know ...
Edited on Thu Jul-17-03 04:32 PM by Lisa
.... is that unlike him, they admit to having the condition, and are actively attempting (with medication and various techniques) to lessen its impact on their work and personal lives. Rather than denying it, and expecting everyone else to cover up for them!

p.s. I thought it was interesting, how Bush has gotten defensive and hostile with reporters like Gail Sheehy who ask about things like the dyslexia which runs in his family (e.g. his brother Neil) and the fact that he himself needed extra help with his schoolwork -- as if he thinks it's some kind of attack on his character. Not really a diplomatic response from someone whose mother (Bar) has done work for learning-disability organizations.

* said that we are helping to rebuild Afghanistan. Sorry I don't remember the exact quote. Again, as in his recent statement re. Hussein's not allowing weapons inspectors into Iraq, he seems completely unable to tell truth from fiction.

7. How can he diagnose Bush without actually seeing him
in person? You can't make a medical diagnosis without evaluating the patient in person.

13. It's pretty easy, a lot of the time,
Jacinto. For instance, I had diagnosed that the Pope had Parkinson's disease several years before it was announced and I'm not even a doctor. Ditto with Howard Cosell. Of course, Parkinson's has visible physical signs. I am sure that a psychiatrist can form a pretty good diagnosis just from studying a person who's in the public eye for a short period of time. Many psychiatric disorders DO have quite recognizable symptoms. Of course, I don't know enough about diagnosing psychiatric disorders to be certain this doctor is right.

12. As the letter to the editor of my local newspaper stated yesterday
(after having thoroughly slammed Clinton), Bush is an honorable man and all who criticize him are hypocrites, or words to that effect. Now take that, doctor. The fact is none of the true believers nor those countless millions upon millions of people who languish in apathy or in a stupor give a whit.
