I have been at DU for at least four years. A thread was just deleted because so many people glommed on to attack me and accuse me of being a freeper because I didn't agree with the topic. Where in the rules does it say I must care about everything everybody else cares about here?

For the record, I would not be here if I didn't care about what's going on in this country. And, I certainly wouldn't waste time hiding to "come out" and make fools of everybody--since that is the epitomy of foolishness.

I think you people who are so quick to jump on the bandwagon to oust people who disagree with your opinions need to reconsider what you stand for. After all, it's the freepers who agree with everything that the criminals in the White House do.

I've heard that people get scrubbed from DU very easily. I've been reading here for over a year and I've seen posts that say all reasonable questions will be allowed, or that posters aren't scrubbed unless they are rude, or they flame someone... but I've seen different.

My question is would the majority of you mind if someone WAS scrubbed for capricious reasons? Do you care why anyone here is tombstoned? What if it WAS because of an unfair reason, or because someone here was caught in an untruth, or just because someone was different, or didn't spout the party line?

Does it bother you if the tombstoning is done for unfair reasons? I'd really like to know--and I've always wanted to ask.

about it either. Because of that, you don't know how "unfair" a decision was. I have, though, written to the moderators when I was once particularly troubled by a removal which I felt had no relation to the rules. I got a satisfactory response.

There have been a number of posters that I thought had been tombstoned for capricious reasons, and then I found out more about the circumstances and learned that there were things going on that were not readily apparent to the casual observer, but that certainly did warrant a tombstone.

There have been a few that really bothered me. There have been times when I've noticed someone tombstoned and written to the mods about it, and they later reappeared. Occasionally someone is tombstoned by accident, or a glitch in the works. Sometimes people habitually post in an extremely disruptive manner and they may have been here so long and have so many posts that they think they are immune from being held accountable for their behavior, and are shocked when they get banned. Invariably such people have developed friendships, and their friends may be just as shocked, as people often have a blind spot where the transgressions of their friends are concerned.

There are other places to go if you get tombstoned from DU. The place just isn't a good fit for some people, and they often seem to do better at other forums.

In my experience, if you follow the rules, treat people with respect, and do not habitually post in a disruptive manner, you shouldn't have anything to worry about as far as being tombstoned. There are also plenty of people who have been reinstated after they have cleared things up and worked things out with the admins. You need to understand that there's alot more going on behind the scenes than many people are aware of.

Anyway, welcome to DU, and you should do fine as long as you follow common sense and common decency.

If you didn't think the topic was worth discussing why didn't you just ignore it, instead of going on and on and on endlessly trying to convince everyone the discussion was counterproductive?

When someone clearly puts a LOT of energy into telling other posters why some particular topic is a waste of energy, it leaves them wide open to charges of being a freeper because that's basically what freepers DO. At least that's what the more intelligent ones do--they try to keep energy and momentum from building.
