Those post Christmas gas heating bills are coming.........beware
Edited on Tue Dec-27-05 01:46 PM by Historic NY
Yikes....holy molly, WTF, mine came today and the shock still hasn't abated not one bit. My normal gas/electric bill is $204 my new one is $468....The sad part is that my electric usage is low. I spent a month or so this fall making sure the house was sealed tight. I've even turned off the heat on the downstairs. Unbelievable.....my town & county tax bill should be here by Sat.

It wouldn't be so bad if I knew month to month what my pension check would be. I got hurt last Jan. & retired in June. I'm still fighting with Workmans Comp, which hasn't paid me one thin dime and they are holding up my disability retirement. Haven't even gotten my back 4 months pension catchup check. The wheels of justice barely move for injured public employees in NY state.:grr: Its a good thing I had some resources tucked away. I have heard this could go on for several years, NY's idea of WC reform is to make it so bad that you have to go back to work to survive.

2. Imagine people getting bills like that
without any resources to fall back on? Besides not being able to afford food and/or prescriptions, will we be seeing foreclosures? And now that it's infinitely harder to file for bankruptcy, I fear for many people. :-(

4. I'm glad my heat comes with my rent
But I bet rent will go up next year. That, or my apartment complex has a money tree growing somewhere.

I have a LOT of sympathy for those of you who have to pay your own heating bills.

6. last month mine was double
It was for an extra 3 days I was told as an excuse. Now they are attempting to cut me off of medical baseline use as if the condition I have is going to go away. I have to now pay to go to a doctor to have the form filled out and signed and then I'll still have the medical baseline which in my case isn't of much help anyway. :argh:

I bought 3 Icelandic wool blankets recently - the warmest yet lightest wool you can buy. I have these on the bed. They help quit a bit along with the memory foam topper which seems to lock in the heat.

As for the house itself - small is the word - 800 sq. feet. I remember when I first moved in here in 2001 the power bill for the month was $18.00. I guess those days are long gone as it was over $75.00 in November and likely to be a lot more this coming month. :(

:kick:

7. Mine too.
Mine was almost $400 this month and we had ours on a timer so that it would go way down at midnight, come back on for a couple of hours in the morning, go back down and come on again at 4:00. On the days I have been home I have survived by hot water bottles and a little space heater and it is still this much. I am pretty livid. My house was built 8 years ago and is energy efficient too.

9. They are greedy alright
Bill for Nov. was $89. Bill for Dec. which just arrived Christmas eve was $239. Had the thermostat on 68 at all times and it still soared. Can hardly wait for the surprise next month.
