Glitter rape charge dropped

HANOI (Reuters) - Vietnamese police will formally charge British glam rocker Gary Glitter with child molestation and drop an additional charge of child rape, his Vietnamese lawyer said on Monday.

Police have said medical tests on girls who alleged they had had sex with the 1970s rock icon, who was arrested last month, led them to look into the more serious charge of raping children which can carry the death penalty.

"The investigation has ended and the charge will still be the initial one, while additional issues were not raised by investigators, probably because of a lack of evidence," Glitter's lawyer Le Thanh Kinh said.

**I have no idea where the truth is in this matter but one must question anything printed by a Murdoch publication. His revolting rag The News Of The World first published these claims. At no time did they reveal that they had encouraged a number of young girls to accuse Glitter, provided them with cash and helped them fill in forms to sue for compensation.

Nothing is sacred with Rupert Murdoch when there is a buck to be made: promoting a war in Iraq in which thousands die or using innocent children to sell newspapers.

It's a credit to the local Cambodiam authorities that they are not being swayed by a News Ltd gutter publication.

1. This man was convicted of having child pornography and why he

would move to nations that have easy access to children could be debatable. I think he's a damned pedo and has the history to prove it.

I'm not defending the man I'm pointing out how the truth is lost when newspapers become the drivers of stories rather than reporting the news.

This subject is too highly emotional. Children have to be protected from the media as well and News Ltd/Fox News or any of Murdoch's rags treat them as objects to be profited from.

My point is not Gary Glitter but the lies of Rupert Murdoch-a man who happily will make money out of promoting a war in which people die. Incidentally, whatever one thinks about Glitter he is entitled to be treated as innocent until proven guilty. It's completely outrageous to say a man is guilty of a terrible crime like this before he's had his day in court.

Your claims of his being a "peodophile " must be backed up with truth..not what you have read in the gutter press.

4. I'll seek out links but if you must know that the Murdoch NoTW has

a history of making unfounded claims..far worse than this and destroying reputations of innocent people.

They also accused the British TV star Mathew Kelly of similar claims 6 years ago in Sri Lanka..none turned out to be true and they had paid locals to make the accusations. They destroyed his career and marriage in the process.

They also accused the great science fiction writer Sir Arthur Clarke of similar claims which turned out to be bogus. He is suing them for millions of $$$ but it's tied up in the courts and he'll be dead before it's over.

They set up a bunch of small time crooks in a scheme to kidnap David Beckham's wife. It turned out to be completely untrue and all charges were dropped. None of the lying News Ltd hacks were charged with wasting police time or printing their lies..
