I figured it out... we are living the Truman Show...
Maybe it feels surreal - because perhaps it really is surreal?

So Lutz gets a show to 'share america's voices' and we react... but it isn't america's voices... it is intentionally selected voices almost staged to give a particular impression.

Meanwhile on the news casts... they now stage and 'cast' the news... they call 'experts' not to discuss an issue - but to discuss a particular outcome of the issue which has not yet happened - but they want to shape the opinion. (Anyone remember the calls to Will to be 'an expert discussing the failure of the weapons inspections' within days of the inspections started? One of hte major cable news outlets was SHAPING the story even in soliciting its experts. Not - bring experts to analyze the first few days of UN Weapons Inspections... But bring in people selected to discuss "THE FAILURES of the inspections" before any time had gone by to suggest that the inspections were failing?

As I sat here and read another item... it occured to me.. the Movie "The Truman Show" is us. Not that people are watching us (then again.. Hi Mr Ashcroft :hi:), but in that the whole thing is staged - we think it is unfolding - but it is completely contrived - complete with "product placement plugs".

Only problem... there is no producer standing aside, preparing to call "CUT!" Just waiting for that person to say... "its a wrap, and put it in the can!" so we can get out of this nightmare.

1. Here is a quote by Roosevelt regarding politics.
I suppose that the same can be said about contemporary media.

In politics nothing happens by accident. If it happened, you can bet it was planned that way.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt

I suppose it always was this way. With the advent of the internet we are privy to more and more of what "The Almighty and Powerful Oz" is up to behind that curtain.

3. And no one even seemed to notice when...

...the Bushies hired Madison Avenue PR teams to manage Bush* image and how Americans 'perceived' the 'war on terrorism'.

- We're 'donating' millions in tax dollars to make Bush* look good.

4. salin, I think you're on to something
framing the debate and pre-determining the outcome is exactly what they are doing.

Right now I'm reading "What Liberal Media - The Truth About Bias in the News" by Eric Alterman. It's damned depressing, I might add, and damned sickening in places. Integrity, honesty, and accuracy have no place in this right-wing media machine. They hold all the cards and deal from the bottom of a stacked deck.

One lesson I've always been able to count on in life is that what goes around comes around. Hubris so egregious always goes too far, and always ends up biting them in the ass. I've seen this come true time and again. I believe this will come to pass for this crooked administration and the right-wing machine, eventually. I just hope it's not too late when it does.

as well. Dodododododododo...
Surreal, the word of the day. The year? Hopefully not of the decade.

6. It started back in the 2000 campaign, when the media were

telling us things that were obviously untrue. It escalated rapidly from election night on. Sometimes I want to stop reading or watching any news and just live in the reality of daily life, exist off the grid of the surrealistic delusion being beamed out across the land.

8. How weird
Edited on Tue Oct-21-03 08:20 PM by slaveplanet
you posed this same question....I watched 4 movies on video in the summer of 2000, End of days, Entrapment , Truman show, & Devil's Advocate....I couldn't help thinking back on those at the end of summer...Save for End of Days, the others were picked by friends and family. But looking back I got the eery feeling something was trying to tell me something.

Then Bush gets elected

Now Schwarzenegger

it appears the news critters aren't the only ones trying to frame the debate.

go see Minority Report.....I believe this is the world they really want....minus the Hero of course

Don't believe me?
go ahead -take the red pill while you still can.

9. What they want is far worse than Minority Report
Look to the 1890s or the 1590s, not the 2090s (which in reality mostlikely will be grotesquely Orwellian bad place to live) for the answers.

12. It's for RFID
Edited on Tue Oct-21-03 08:50 PM by slaveplanet
A precursor for the Biochip-works on the same principal- and they plan to use it much like what you see in minority report. There will be transmitters everywhere. The RFID is unpowered, but it does have antennae.Electronic billboards like Minority Report will change and address you personally as you approach.Return items more than 3 times a year to a particular store and you will be shown the door, or the electronic price tag may change to a higher price if you've been red flagged. Borrow someone's pen or can of soda ,and they can make a connection you were in contact with that person. They plan to tie it in with homeland security. Michelin is on board, RFid's have the ability to be read from 5 feet at 90mph if the cop has a transmitter.
Walmart has mandated that it's top 100 suppliers need to be on board by 2005. It will be in all shoes, since those are rarely lent or borrowed.

Raise your voice, boycott now and we may be able to back em off...but like that link says , I feel it is inevitable...simply way to much apathy and uninformed sheeple out there.

14. ew
I still pay higher prices at the grocery store to avoid having a) everything I buy be logged; and b) having the grocery store sell my name on a list to other companies. And I would voluntarily use this?

No wonder the consumers said they saw no value to them for this product.

10. We are living the Handmaid's Tale...never before have I worried
for my daughter's future as an American citizen. Her reproductive rights are being taken away. Should I watch my daughter suffer if she were to carry a brainless baby, what if her life were in jeopardy? If that baby were to take my daughter's life, would I be able to be joyous in it's arrival. When are they going to tell our girl children of childbearing age that they can no longer have a hysterectomy to save their life?? I am sick and sad today...We are living a movie, and I fear it has a horrible end.

13. I also thought of it as a variation of "Alice Through The Looking Glass"
too. It's like I got up one morning and walked out the door, but the door was a portal that took me to an alternate universe where everything was familiar but opposite to where I had been.

I had better stop doing the things I do whenever I think I'm "alone". Oh dear! This is just horrible horrible news. What must everyone be thinking of me now?
