Huh? There is nothing wrong with the word liberal or progressive for that matter and there is plenty of room for both. I don't give a rat's ass how the RW spins "Liberal", thats what i am and thats what i call myself.

1. I say, " I'm a progressive, or a liberal, whichever you prefer."
"And I'm proud of it."

By the way, your point is well-taken; I will not run. I'm a proud liberal, or progressive if you prefer, and I'm proud I care about people.

You know, that's one of the reasons why I never refer to myself as progressive. I've tried it a few times, but it always reminds me of those damn insurance commercials, so I can't take the word seriously! :P It's "liberal" for me. :hi:

On edit: Actually, I usually say, "I'm a left-wing, liberal, yellow-dog Democrat" in a tone of voice that dares the listener to make an issue of it, LOL!

13. I say, "That's Proud Progressive" or "Proud Liberal"...
they think that because Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly et al have demonized the words, there must be something wrong with people who are forward thinking and constantly seeking enlightenment.

Progressives seek change, conservatives think everything was just fine in the 17th Century.

I find "Conservative", to being closed minded, anti-intellectual, anti-science, anti-thinking...a place where I will not venture.

16. Liberal Means Unregulated & In The Rest World Means Free Market
so I have no reason to call myself Liberal.

It is inaccurate.

Progressive?

How do you ridicule Progress? It'd just highlight their own regressiveness.

Liberal is a word with so many meanings it has no generally accepted meaning, just like conservative when the religious right bastardized all conservative principles.

I am for reforming the voting process to require a majority in all elections and having a straight up vote on the president and coming up with a solution to non-ending taxpayer-paid gerrymandering. I am for universal health care. I am for protections from preditory lenders and the high interest rates that are married to unbelievable penalties for lateness. I am for cutting back on military spending and reigning in the protection racket of the USG. I am for dismantling the DEA and the Department of Education. I am for busting up the media monopolies held by Disney, NewsCorporation, AOL Time Warner, General Electric, Viacom, and Clear Channel at the earliest possible moment. And I am for removing all Congressmen for their failure to alert the country of the criminals that run/ruin the government.

Call it whatever you want. Right now I call it treason fighting.

Thugs don't define me. Hell, they can't even grasp the concept of me ;)

Letting others define you is letting they have WAY too much power.

I'm a liberal. Always have been. Their twisting of words means zilch to me.

25. Radical
I am a Radical, not a "liberal" or "progressive", and damned proud to be one. I am of the party of Paine and Jefferson, and would be delighted to see the Democratic Party change its name to the Radical Party--or, as seems likelier, if the Dems simply self-destruct like the Whigs for sheer irrelevancy, I'd like to see a Radical Party take its place. Let the Repubs and the fascists throw the term "radical" at us as an insult...we'll wear it proudly, and use it to cleanse the American flag. My own idea of Radicalism would be for resolute opposition to all Clerical Fascism, total commitment to the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and economic decentralization, with a total commitment to family farms, small businesses, and unyielding opposition to the so-called "Global Economy"...and that we should pledge our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor, those old-fashioned 18th century notions, towards these goals. I believe firmly that the American republic *died* on December 12, 2000, with the Republican coup--an assault on the country as serious as that of Fort Sumter...and that Gore's, and the Dems, acquiescense in this destroyed their legitimacy as a party. We've seen the bill for that acquiescence come due a day at a time ever since--and now, even the most naive can see open fascism staring us in the face... The American people have never really lost their Radical tinge--it's been there ever since 1776, and can break out in the right circumstances...well--the conditions have never been riper than they are now. I say, let us be Radicals, though the heavens fall or until the Republic perishes once and for all...
