1. The people deserve threads without misleading subject lines.
No offense but when you make a fake subject line like that it turns me off to reading the rest of your message. Oh yes, all the questions you asked were valid but please be a bit more respectful. Jerk potential reader's chains around too much and you wind up on an ignore list. I would have read your thread anyway, even without the false and misleading subject line.

27. Here is the original post madokie....
What if ?

Would that get their attention? Would they like to know that while they were having secret discussions with their secret sources, they were secretly being taped and spied upon by their "secret" government?

How do we know it hasn't happened? Are we supposed to believe George W Bush who has yet to tell the truth about anything? Shouldn't we have an investigation to find out that it hasn't happened? Don't the people at least deserve that?
=========================================================

(A couple of people felt snookered by the headline, I guess? Original headline was without quotes: "Insider says Bush spied on journalists, reporters, and Opposition leaders" )

Edited on Sun Dec-25-05 12:50 PM by C_U_L8R
I'd be more surprised if they hadn't spied on congress, the press, corporations as well as individual citizens.

(oh and you made my heart skip a beat with your headline..hahhaha).

how come congress and the press is not howling for Bush's enemies list ?????????

9. Most of the spying is being done on Republicans
First and foremost they have to keep their right wing tight. Fearing the bosses. They cannot have any dissent.
So if I was a republican I would be nervous...really nervous..

stuff they do..they are being watched and listened to all the time. They signed on with the devil and now they have to do it's bidding. They can't turn back.

12. I frankly believe he did just those types of things.
We learned Hoover had files on Ave Gardner's sex life and even more silly things. Clinton had all those FBI files and Nixon was after all these anti-war people. Sorry but I think Bush did it all. Protection the country was said about all but Clinton said it was an error if I recall right. Lets face it it,it is about knowing who is not with you and just plane being interested in knowing about people. Even father Bush had people pulling files and one lady from NH lost her job for doing that for father Bush.

15. That is the question. How do we NOT know many unsuspecting Americans
Edited on Sun Dec-25-05 01:21 PM by shance
haven't had their personal lives monitored on a daily level?

First to consider that the Bush did not admit to such widespread spying until he was forced to. How similar is this to the same lying that was done to allow the Administration to take our kids into Iraq on falsified evidence? In other words, the secrecy and lying within the Bush Administration seems to be more consistent than the truth. So, to what extent we are talking about in terms of privacy invasion and abuse of the Patriot Act could go much further than what they are presently saying. If they are using satellites to eavesdrop on Americans, does it make it easier and without evidence so to speak?

How much are Bush, the NSA, the Pentagon and other intelligence agencies abusing their power and gathering information on Americans so as to neutralize and divide the Progressive movement, or just any movement that is not right wing?

As far as the Patriot Act goes, how can we as Americans prove our rights havent been violated, that our houses havent been bugged and entered into.

I think this is the problem. Its not telling us as Americans to prove it, because we can't prove more often than not, that we've been violated. Its having the focus be placed on those that are potentially abusing every aspect of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution and make them prove they haven't been engaging in widespread monitoring and investigating of Americans at large.

17. hell, kentuck
it's just a few persnickity perfectionists. You open a post, you don't know what to expect. It's a valid technique to use the subject line to draw a poster in.

About the original subject: You had a good point. If this were about them, if this becomes about them, shit will fly. So long as this story is about us, we'll have tomake as much noise as we do about anything else to just get noticed, much less have our arguments elevated to an appropriate level of concern.

MC! :hi:

25. I agree. putting Kentuck on ignore is like throwing the baby out with
the bathwater.

Who has an editor do assist in posts? DU isn't the New York Times.

Actually, come to think of it, even WITH editors, DU is gaining a better track record with each passing year. :-)

Merry Christmas!
