When the Shiites take over in Iraq, won't the current Iraq Army dissolve?
Edited on Fri Dec-23-05 07:05 PM by Hyernel
What I mean is...

The current Iraqi police and Army units are made up of people who sort of support the Allawi/secular type of government. So if a fundamentalist Shiite junta takes over, what is stopping those soldiers and police, that are currently working, from abandoning their units en masse?

Most of these guys are Kurds and cooperative sunnis. How can they be expected to risk their necks for Mullah Sistani or Muqtada. And they're going to want to replace Iraqi commanders with Shiite loyalist commanders. Will sunni foot soldiers accept orders from Muqtada's militia leaders?

I don't think they will. If the Shiites take over, whatever Iraqi Army there currently is will disappear overnight and Rummy will have to started over from scratch. Because the guys in those position now will be lining up for civil war...AGAINST the Shiites. The Kurds and Sunnis will not serve under the Shiites.

Guess who will be in the middle?

6. Why do you think that?
I am under the impression that in the north the 'Iraq Army' is in fact identical to the two Kurdish militias and in the south the 'Iraqi Army' is in fact composed of soldiers who just happen to also all be members of the two shiite militias.

I am also under the impression that for the most part the sunnis are not participating at all.

Now I happen to agree with your assertion that the 'Iraqi Army' will dissolve when we bug out, as it will decompose into its consituent militias and they will figure out what the new political boundaries are in a more or less violent political process depending on how greedy each side is.

7. Stop propogating the Shia/Sunni/Kurd seperation myth
This myth is mostly purported by power monger and extremist figures. As a muslim, I can tell you most of us do not support segregation of Shia and Sunni..

9. Maybe those permanent U.S. military bases that are being built in Iraq.
Weren't they suppose to be larger and better than the permanent U.S. military bases in Europe?

Osama Saddam, I mean Osama bin Laden wanted the U.S. out of Saudi Arabia, so GW Bush had to find a new country (Iraq) and then GW Bush ordered the U.S. military out of Saudi Arabia to please Osama Saddam, I mean Osama bin Laden.
