Pastor's Wife Says She Chose To Exit Plane (Yeah... Sure...) - AP

<snip>

HOUSTON (AP) -- The wife of the pastor of the nation's largest church said she chose to leave an airplane after a disagreement with a flight attendant, disputing accounts that she was asked to go. The FBI has said Victoria Osteen was asked to leave after failing to obey crew instructions. The Continental Airlines flight Monday from Houston to Vail, Colo., was delayed an hour as a result.

In a statement posted on the Lakewood Church Web site, Osteen says: "Regardless of how some have portrayed the situation, please know that it was truly a minor misunderstanding and did not escalate into what you saw or read in the news. Contrary to those reports, it was my choice to remove myself from the situation. Nonetheless, it was a most unfortunate event and I truly regret that it happened."

A statement from Continental said the situation was resolved and a spokeswoman would not elaborate. The FBI reviewed a report from the airline and determined that no illegal activity had occurred, FBI spokeswoman Luz Garcia said.

"She failed to comply with the flight attendant's instructions, and they were asked to leave the flight," Garcia said Tuesday. Church spokesman Don Iloff said the Osteen family took another flight to Vail.

Apparently... ruining a ski vacation in Vail is a sin. And all this time I thought lying was a sin.

1. A pastor and his family
can afford to stay in Vail for the holidays? Scumbags rip off every poor old sucker they can find. I can only hope that Osteen and the rest of the fundie ilk wind up in some inner circle of hell.

3. Osteen could BUY Vail...
Lakewood church is huge, vast, absurdly large etc., etc., etc.

Tens of thousands of members...

It is 'one of those' churches.

6. But oddly enough, he isn't a raging fundie...
he's co-opted some of the "positive message" kind of thing of a Robert Schuller (then again, Robert Schuller can't seem to get on a plane without getting into a fist fight with a flight attendant over grapes and where to hang his robe, but I digress.)

13. He Must Be Doing Something Right. The Right AND The Left Hate Him
DU'ers hate him because he's 1. a preacher 2. from Texas who has the audacity to 3. make money and not 4. live in poverty.

Xtian Fundies hate him because he's not a judgemental, hate-mongering prick.

He's not my cup of tea but it says a lot that DU'ers get so rapidly up in arms about him.

15. Uhm, Not live in poverty???
I know ministers who live in poverty. I know ministers who are comfortable and better off than I am. I don't know any who can fly the family to Vail for the holidays. Taking money from people on social security in order to live in luxury has got to be the worst kind of sin there is. And that is exactly what these people do.

7. I actually have attended one of their services....
Lots of money there. They acquired the old Houston Rockets arena and made it into their church. The service was complete with a stage, band, and video screens. There was even a concession stand. I remember reading that one of the original complaints of the Catholic Church before the schism was the opulence of its cathedrals. How ironic...

That goofy-ass jacket she's wearing.

Seriously. These people reek of "used car salesman."

10. If her voluntary actions caused a flight delay of
one hour I think the other passengers should be compensated for the inconvenience.
