Spying on Liberals -- Why are they so afraid of us?
Throughout history, liberal organizations have been considered the boogyman of the right -- tree huggers, grandmothers, bike riders, peace activists, social justice proponents have all been targeted by suspicious government officials convinced that nefarious, dangerous activities are taking place.

But what is it that the powerful are so afraid of?

And if they're afraid of it from the left, why not from the right?

Communism, which at one time was a legitimate threat, has pretty much been defeated.

Socialism is thriving in many Western countries, particularly Scandinavian, but with a strong capitalist component attached, that doesn't preclude rich people from being or getting rich. (Just maybe not AS rich as one can be here)

So, what is it about caring about people, the environment, social responsibility, that is so threatening to the powers that be?

Is it just that they've become powerful this way and feel threatened that if the status quo is changed they will lose some of their power?

But wouldn't the threat of that be equal from a right-wing, paramilitary organization? (Who have guns instead of whole food, all natural ingrediant produce?)

Any thoughts?

1. Welcome to Nazi America, the GOP Way
control stems from fear of losing control. It's a vicious cycle right wingers find themselves in time again, because of their narrow minded view on the World.

It's like watching fish swim in circles, unawares of a larger World. That scares the fuck out of them. The sad part is they can't control anything but their own personal perception of that World around them. So they fail each and everytime they try. Just look at history.

Anything open-minded or Jesus-like threatens them as well.

2. Possibly because they know they've lied to and abused the public,
and they know that if the public wakes up and sees that, the number of liberals will swell dramatically. That would mean a loss of power for the RW, a loss of money for the RW and their friends, and a complete change in our society.

4. To obtain unbending loyalty from your supporters, caste them as soldiers
In order to enlist soldiers to your cause, you need a war (or the pretext of one).
In order to have a war, you need an enemy.

It doesn't matter that liberals are mostly harmless, at worst, and outright beneficial contributors to society, by my reckoning. In order to agitate the conservative base into permanent self-immolative support for idiotic policies designed by madmen and thieves, liberals must be portrayed as an enemy to be feared.

This applies at all levels of government, not just to propaganda intended for civilian consumption.

6. Thats what I don't get
Worst act of left-wing terrorism - arson of Vail restaurant. No deaths.
Worst act of right-wing terrorism - OKC bombing. 168 deaths, 500 injuries.

Which political idealogy is more dangerous?
