What Happened to the Terror Alerts?
Josh Marshall via Daily Kos

When was the last time there was a major terror alert? They were something like a regular occurence for the eighteen months or so before the 2004 election. And through 2004 the administration pushed the line that al Qaida was aiming to disrupt the elections themselves. But as near I can tell there hasn't been a single one since election day.

Through 2004, of course, critics of the administration routinely questioned whether the frequency and timing of the various terror alerts were not all or in part for political effect.

How do we explain what appears to be a night and day difference between the year prior to November 2004 and the year since in terms of terror alerts and scares?

2. Good question.
Is the "terror level" still running along the bottom of the cable television screens?

4. The last two were exposed as bogus alerts that were issued
weeks after the culprits were caught.

Not only that, but it's not an election season. Those alerts were happening nearly weekly until the election, then they stopped dead.

Expect to see them coming back in the last half of 2006.

6. Olberman did a nice job of exposing how predictable they were
in times of trouble for the junta. They are on to new diversions. Will return to terra-alerts when they think we have forgotten how they were manipulated before.

They count on short attention spans.

Oh, look over there! Another attack on Christmas! is this month's theme.

Sheeple better wake the fuck up. This crew exploited everyone, especially well-meaning mothers, normally friendly Christians and rednecks already on the edge. When Merika snaps out of their Kool Aid induced coma they are gonna be pissed and it will be a long time 'til a Repuke gets elected again. We can only pray.

12. Yelling fire in a crowded theatre will get you arrested.
What should be the penalty for scaring the shit out of American citizens by lying about being blown to bits?

Those in 'leadership' intentionally lying/committing crimes to achieve their other criminal ends.

Dean was one of the few who openly questioned the use of scare tactics. Lets not mince words here, they terrorized the American people. Its quite sick...and criminal.

Also, do not forget the "10+" phony 'terror lockdown' in Ohio on election night as well. Why hasn't anyone investigated that crime?

13. why, the terra-ists gave up when the almighty shrub was reselected
they realized the futility of their ways as long as shrub is in office, but they are now making long-term plans for when the u.s. is more vulnerable, i.e., when there next is a democrat in the white house.

17. That's because there is no terror threat
At least, there wasn't until we invaded Iraq. We've probably created 1000x more terrorists than we were facing before that. Most Middle Eastern terrorists are more interested in getting Israel out of Palestine. I'm not even 100% convinced that "terrorists" were involved in 9-11; and even if they were, it wasn't part of some "terrorist campaign".

Bush is using this "terrorist threat" to take away all of our civil liberties, to infiltrate opposition groups, and eventually set himself up as dictator of this country (he even said on one occasion that things would be much easier if he were dictator). I have to hand it to him, he's not as dumb as we give him credit for - either that, or most Americans are just too dumb, fat, and lazy to really care.

Isn't it a coincidence that the terrorist threats subsided after the election? Of course, they'll pop up just in time for next year's Congressional elections, to try and scare people into voting for the repugs.

Oh, be sure that 'terrorists' were involved in 9-11. Some even live in the White house.

21. the states went broke
the cost of compliance with "orange" is huge, millions of dollars in extra expenses, and several states and cities announced they could not comply because they were bankrupt & nearly so

so we remain at yellow & will forever more unless actual global thermonuclear war breaks out

happy christmas!
