There are two things about chimpeachment that are bugging me.
1: I cant reconcile my longing for the chimped to be impeached with the dread that I have when Papa Dick takes over.

2: I dont see it happening unless we win big in the 2006 elections. Does anyone else feel this way?

3. welcome to DU Lyle
I hope so. With all the corruption charges floatting around no wonder they call Senator Mccain Mister Integrity. It really isn't hard to be a pillar of virtuosity in this ceaspool of deciet.

8. I have to agree.
Any impeachment investigation is going to get to the heart of those Energy Policy meetings, where they divvied up the map of Iraqi oil fields.

When the public gets a real whif of that, it's going to be ugly.

4. Impeachment won't take the red out of the White House.
But it will send a powerful message to them and to the world that America is still of the people and for the people. Right now, nobody believes it.

5. Perhaps history will repeat itself
I still think Fitzgerald will nab Cheney on treason charges in the Plame affair. He'll be forced to resign in a plea bargain where he leaves in exchange for no (or little) jail time. Bush is forced to appoint a new VP-and the repukes in Congress demand it not be an extremist-they are looking to their 2006 elections. Then Bush is impeached.

13. then they need to keep working to get
Condiliar, because without immediate chimpeachment (I like that too) he will move her up...probably put Karen into the SOS position...we can only hope that Fitz takes the entire WHIG down. THe scary part of all of this is that Hastert is in line next and then Ted Stevens! And I can't think of a single good thing that could come of that. Go Fitz Go!

9. Cheney broke the law as much as Bush
He was the one who did the "briefings" to the gagged and silenced Congressional committee. I would also throw Ashcroft and Gonzales and Condi into the same impeachment pot and maybe some others as well (Bolton, assorted FBI officials, ) Maybe some of them will save us time and aggravation by resigning under pressure and then running off to their counting houses to dance naked in their ill-gotten gains for a few minutes before becoming lobbyists.

11. Then it must be done in the proper order
First Cheney then Chimpy. And besides the fact that it can't happen unless Dems take back the House, it shouldn't happen before then cuz we'd end up with Pres. Hastert.

Hastert would be so hamstrung by his own ethical lapses that he would be little more than a placeholder.

12. Ah, the daily we can't impeach the chimp thread
If Bush is impeached or more likely 'forced to resign' then the rest of the cabal is going down with him. It's an all or nothing deal.

He's going down, people. End of story!! And who cares who the next interim pres will be. If he associated with king george's admin he will have every citizen of the USA watching his every move.(IMHO)

26. I never said that we shouldn't or couldn't impeach chimpy.
I was just worried about the consequences of chimpeachment and his sucessor.
I also think that chimpeachment would be more likely to happen if we won big next year.

15. here's my take: he SHOULD be impeached, therefore it should be attempted
to hell with whether it succeeds. He is GUILTY of high crimes and misdemeanors.
Did the republicans succeed in impeaching Clinton? Did that stop them?

why, oh why, do we do all this handwringing over whether it will succeed? For once, let's just do something because ITS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

Rape cases are difficult to get a conviction. Should we therefore shrug our shoulders and let rapists run free? Don't we prosecute every rape case to the best of our ability?

16. The art of politics
and social movements is best understood in terms of process. What happens tomorrow is -- and indeed only can be -- a direct result of what happens today. So it is good to look down the road, and to identify goals for the future .... such as the possibility of impeachment .... but we must recognize it as being part of a process .... and in order to move towards that tomorrow, we need to make serious efforts at change -- today.

There is a very real chance that Spiro Cheney will retire ("for health reasons") before the summer comes. The make-up of the House and Senate can change, both in content and direction, before this time next year. Yet these things, which connect to the two things "bugging" you, depend in large part on the actions we take today. And if we want tommorow to be different, it can only happen if we each make changes in that which we do now.

17. If the impeach both POTUS and VPOTUS
When does the reformation begin? How stupid will it be to impeach a sitting pResident and his puppeteer if you don't reform government completely? Why not get a separate committee to watch over "officals" in D.C. and all politicians? If we learn nothing from this corruption and do nothing about this corruption, what's to stop it in the future.

In my opinion, the government needs a complete overhaul. It honestly needs to be purged of all the old guys, the ones who've been there forever and know all the tricks and started again with regular people, people who actually care more about the Country than they do their free meals, Hummer limos, private jets and one hand washing the other.

23. Actually, we need to reform society
Government is just part of it.

People need to change if we are going to 'make it'. Attitudes need to change and humans need to start working together to figure out how to make the world a better place for everyone, not just an elite few.

24. Little Steps...
Yes Cheney is bad - but he's at deaths door literally and figuratively.

Fitz will take out Cheney. Let the American public take out Bush.

I will be in Washington to march. If we do not act we are condoning what is going on, I DO NOT CONDONE THE DESTRUCTION OF AMERICA.

29. Re: 1. Stop fear mongering...
Bush is President not Dick Cheney, if Bush gets impeached and he won't because it would be a battle to get past the apologists & the freepers but if he did 2 things would happen 1. Dick would only be serving 2 years scared shit-less 2. If he screws up we impeach him too.
