Look. It's not spying when you post something on the INTERNET!!!!
I see a few people around here (not naming names) saying that we, as in DU, are being spied upon.

NO WE'RE NOT! It's not spying when all you need is a frickin web-browser.

TOBY
(still muttering) In my day, we knew how to protest.

C.J.
What day was that?

TOBY
1968.

JOSH
How the hell old were you when you were protesting?

TOBY
My sisters took me. (staffers chuckle) Anybody have a problem with that?

LEO
No one has a problem with that.

TOBY
The police are always seven steps ahead of them. The cops know exactly where they’re
going to be and what’s going to happen. You know how they know? By logging onto their
website.
We had the underground. We had rapid response.

How many cameras have seen you today? How many did you see? Been out shopping? Went to the ATM first?

When you came home, did you browse the internet a bit? Do you know that all web servers that run those pages you visited, logs your IP address and the time you visited? That the ISP logs what user uses what IP at what time? A little cross reference and they know your social security number.

We're being watched all the time. And quite frankly, if it catches robbers, murderers and pedophiles, go for it.

PS: Although wiretapping without warrant, that's not how it's supposed to be done. But where do you draw the line?

1. Hey, here's what they are saying. What if they get your INFO
by picking up on your posts at DU and then from that begin to go see where else you browse and shop and what you buy and if your taxes need auditing and what magazines you get, etc.?

DU might be the STARTING POINT for deciding who is the "enemy" and will be spied on.

See?

2. I think you're being a bit paranoid.

I think the CIA is fairly well aware that enemies of the state don't usually even so much as suggests their intentions on an internet forum.

If they are going to spy on everyone who disagrees with bush, they have to put roughly 4 billion people under surveillance.

3. Poindexter and the PNAC cabal agree completely with your point of view.
All fascists agree. The power of the government is unlimited. Every act you make is public if someone is watching, and therefor subject to government monitoring. So this is not improper in any way. It protects us, and all fear-driven cowards will agree that this is a good thing.

5. "If it catches robbers, murderers and pedophiles, go for it. "
Those are your words. Draw your own conclusion.

6. That wasn't in reference to illegal wiretaps, silly.

That was in reference to having cameras over ATMs and in busy streets with a high crimerate, etc. etc.

7. By the way

I know the meaning behind my words, because I wrote them. What I don't know is your interpretation of them, so what exactly am I supposed to base my conclusion on?

I guess I have no choice but to assume you actually were calling me a fear-driven cowardly fascist.

Which, by the way, is not nice.

8. Well,

On both of your statements:

In college, one of my ethics profs had the point of view that we shouldn't worry about being monitored, because most of us aren't that interesting anyway. But I worry about #s 2, 3, and 10.

http://mvp-seattle.com/pages/pageFascism.htm

When people are first identified as being of a dissenting viewpoint, and then actions are taken, and lets be frank, information on groups like PETA, or on peace protesters etc., is only gathered for a reason, that's scary.
