7. Dennis and Maxine are awesome!
I'd love to see Bush receive his Villain of the Year Award. I understand the trophy is extremely appropriate.

8. Great list!
Congressman of the year: 2005.

A well deserved award, as was this:

Ghandi Peace Award: 2003

And an incredibly long list of actions taken to oppose corrupt corporate control of government and stand up for all citizens.

I wish his own party valued him more. Interesting that my top choice for an '08 ticket both appear on this list; Kucinich/Boxer.

Kudos to my former Senator, Barbara Boxer, and to the rest of the list as well.

12. Surely wish John Conyers had gotten a nod.
He has fought tirelessly to combat the fascism of the reich.

26. If you look further down the PHDC main page, you'll notice
they gave Conyers an American Hero Award. The PHDC is impressed with Conyers. They are just more impressed with Dennis. They also gave American Hero Awards to Stan "Tookie" Williams (posthumously), Russ Feingold, Alexandar Hull-Richter and John Lewis.

I wasn't aware of that. Both the WTO and Yucca Mt. issues are outrageous. I see your point -- and Patrick Henry's.

Thank you for posting that information.

20. "Conyers get kudos all the time at Patrick Henry"
That's good to know, but I wish they had awarded a tie vote for "Congressman of the Year" to both Conyers and Kucinich.
(They had a tie vote for villain of the year)

Hard to overlook Downing Street and the Ohio voter suppression hearings, etc.

29. Bush and Wal*Mart tied for votes for villain
Edited on Sat Dec-24-05 05:02 PM by Albert Einstein
There were half a dozen villain nominees and the Villain Award went into a run-off and resulted in a tie-vote. The Villain awards are really cool. The villains are getting engraved trophies, each with a statuette of the back half of a horse.

27. Kucinich has the best voting record & he's actually done more this year.
Check out his web site, kucinich.us, and you'll see all the stuff Kucinich worked on. He's the force behind getting out of Irza and pushing the FBI to investigate Bush. Kucinich has also been the strogest force in Congress against the PATRIOT Act, the WTO and Star Wars. When California needed someone to fight against Yucca Mountain, he was there, and virtually everyone else (including Conyers) voted for it twice this year. A lot more has happened this year than three items and events.

24. Concur. John Conyers hands down.
Edited on Sat Dec-24-05 10:32 AM by paineinthearse
Conyers has been the most effective and consistantly leader of the progressive wing. Sorry, but the extent of Dennis' efforts have been one minute speeches in the well.

Conyers has brought investivative groups to Ohio and DC for ELECTION FRAUD and MEDIA MANIPULATION. He has also been in the fore for the DOWNING STREET MEMO, ABRAMOFF, GUCKERT, & RESURRECTION OF VOTING RESTRICTIONS.

I've ceased my daily posts to DU from the Conyers blogs for reasons known by a few, but am pleased Melissa B and others have been carrying on.

If it is not already your home page (or at least a daily read), go to http://www.conyersblog.us/

25. They've given Conyers awards. Conyers had some really bad votes.
Edited on Sat Dec-24-05 01:21 PM by Padme Amidala
Conyers's voted for one of the war appropriations bills, twice for the nuclear bill (which included Yucca Mountain funding and funding for billions of nuclear weapons activities), against withdrawal from the WTO and for a bill which could give a child a national MDSO record for life for walking his sister to a date. He probably just wasn't paying attention when he voted. Despite that, Conyers has one of the best records in Congress. His record just isn't as good as that of Dennis Kucinich, Maxine Waters, Cynthia McKinney, Lynn Woolsey, Marice Hinchey, Jim McDermott or Jan Schakowsky.

The members of the PHDC considered Conyers. They felt Dennis had more activities and were impressed with Dennis's perfect voting record for the year. Dennis led the fight against the WTO and CAFTA. The Resolution of Inquiry into the leaks leading to the war and the bi-partisan bill to withdraw from Iraq were Dennis's. Then, there was the re-introduction of the Department of Peace. Dennis did a lot of work to get others on board with the actions Conyers took. Dennis sent out frequent action alerts asking people to sign on to the DSM petition and he was there January 6th.

Cynthia McKinney was the competition for Maxine as they have the best voting records of all the women in Congress. Maxine had more visible activities this year. Also, she has done a lot of work to help get the Democratic Party to take the correct positions.
