My response to a Freeper on the War On Christmas
On another board I post at, a Freeper lashed out at me over the fake War On Christmas because, sorry it's sort of long:

Freeper:

"Hey, Bill O'Reilly didn't ask stores not to allow there employees to say Merry Christmas, or them not allowing Merry Christmas to be in any of there advertising. He's not the one who caused there to be a ban in certain places, of people singing Christmas Carols, putting up Nativity Scenes, and other Christmas decorations, while allowing the symbols of other religions to be seen. He's not the one who thinks that celebrating a historical figures birthday, is somehow a way of the government endorsing Christianity. He just brings these things to light, since most in the media ignore it. Saying that Bill O'Reilly is exaggerating this, and doing it for political reasons, is a pile of bull****!!! I was taking this Christmas stuff seriously far before Bill O'Reilly ever said anything about it. It's so freaking obvious. It couldn't be anymore obvious then it is. The fact is, if Bill O'Reilly was just exaggerating this stuff as you claim, then people wouldn't be this angry about it. That's how you know whether or not something is a big issue, by the publics reaction, and the publics reaction to this, has been huge. That's a fact!!! To not think that there are people all over the place, who are trying to censor a Christian's freedom of speech, and expression, is ridiculous. It's happening everyday, and all around us. Anyway, that's the deal on that. Have a nice evening!!"

My response:

"First off, I never said in any of my post that Bill made the stores do anything, you are completely missing my point. I'm saying he's hyping this issue to divide people, because he is a political hack. I say that for the fact he says that this and I'm quoting

O'Reilly: "War" on Christmas part of "secular progressive agenda" that includes "legalization of narcotics, euthanasia, abortion at will,"

That just rings a bell of being politcal in my opinion.
He's blamed Canada and claims this is some massive conspiracy by George Soros.

Second of all, there has never been a ban on anything Christmas in this country. The phrase "Happy Holidays" has been around for eons and no one has complained it offended them before. Stores only use it because there are different holidays in this seasons.

Judaism has Hanukkah, Islam has Eid Al Adha, Baha'i has Feast of Masa'il, then there is the non-religious Kwanzaa which has been adopted by people of various faiths. So when the stores tell their clerks what to say "Happy Holidays" it's because they don't always know what a customer's faith is, so they just give a universal greeting. It's about diversification, not an attack on religion. Some people don't think people of other faiths and cultures count. "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" it doesn't matter to me, because I know there is always someone out there who holds different beliefs than I and I respect that.

I can't find one shred of evidence that any stores have anti-Christmas or anti-religious rules. The facts are, no one can point out any legal actions taken or protests to remove references to Christmas.
No one can provide evidence of this so-called "War On Christmas", because it is bogus. It's nothing more than a conspiracy theory. The real problem with Christmas is the corporate commercialization of it, where it's all buy, buy, sell, sell and that is what is really hurting the holiday. My question is, if there was actually a problem, why has the phrase "Happy Holidays" become a problem after all these years?"

2. My tactics are a little different.
Instead of launching into a harangue, I just fix them with a gelid stare and say "That's the most unchristian thing I've ever heard in my life."

If they splutter and demand an explanation, THEN comes the harangue, and it's a doozy.

That one word, "unchristian," carries the biggest wallop of any word I use. It seems to be the one thing that will penetrate the talking points defenses. They've all read those words in the NT. They've just been given permission to ignore them. I take that permission away.
