Election Fraud New Year's Resolution: Vow with Me!!!
After the holidays, I am going to write, call and otherwise harass my representatives and the media with my concerns about those blasted machines. I am going to demand VOTER VERIFIED PAPER BALLOTS and I am going to demand they be counted by HAND! I am going to demand that we get rid of electronic voting machines of every kind. I am going to demand we get rid of those blasted scanners. I am going to educate myself about the weaknesses of the machines and their software and I am going to do my best to make sure this becomes an "issue."

Who is with me?

1. I was thinking this may be the ONLY non-partisan issue that
is worth rallying behind or even has a chance of making a difference.

7. Non-partisan? Dream on. It worked too well for one party to be so.

9. Judging by your name, I'm guessing you are also from Ohio?
As am I.

Actually, what I meant was, the issue of voting security itself is something that both Democrats and Republicans would agree is an important one. I believe most Americans are fair-minded and would agree that for a democracy to be genuine as well as effective, voting rights and transparent voting systems should be a top priority.

And now seems to be a really great time to reach out since Diebold is under investigation and we have a congress that simply will not uphold their own to the law. Let everybody know that unless the voting machine problems are eradicated they can only expect more of the same. If Bush's ratings are as low as they're reported to be, we should reasonably expect democratic control next election year. But when that doesn't happen (and it sure won't in Ohio) I think a LOT of people are going to be in for a rude awakening, namely the disenchanted Republicans who think our beef with the election system is just sour grapes.

I hate to say it but it's probably going to get worse before it gets better. The trick will be to refrain from the "I told you so" gloating and simply say yes, we know, but what are WE going to do about it?

4. The irony is that the HAVA deadline is Jan. 1, 2006...
You will be exactly 1 day too late...

6. Crap. OK, I'll try to educate myself and start a bit early.
I'll look at your link and if I don't have any ideas on where to start, maybe you could give me some input?

Maybe we could flood our reps every day until the first.

11. I read your URL. Can you give me ideas of what to say?
To whom should I say it?

Sorry, but I'm in a bit of a hurry here. I was planning on catching up on my knowledge of the issue during Christmas break.

14. Right now, the action is at the local level...
The Jan 1st deadline is for the states to have HAVA compliant guidelines that tell their counties which machines they can "buy". If the guidelines are in place, the Feds then fork over the money to the localities to buy the machines.

So the states and localities are motivated to meet the minimal requirements so they can get their hands on the Federal money.

A voter verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) and mandatory random audits aren't part of the HAVA guidelines and so most states aren't requiring these minimal safeguards. In Pennsylvania, they're actually turning off the VVPAT for those manufacturers that have one!

Now, my local state rep (Dan Frankel) is sponsoring a bill that would require a VVPAT in PA. You need to find out what YOUR state is doing and contact your state government reps. :hi:

15. Yikes. It may be too much to learn in too short a time.
I'll see if I can find someone with more energy than I have to help me. (I have health issues.)

8. Me!
I too will harrass those entities. Also, don't forget the Secretaries of States, who are the ones who decide how elections will be done.
