How is it that Clinton was impeached over lying about a BJ....
Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 12:57 PM by Lyle
...and we can't get THIS guy impeached over the laundry list of real consitiutional infringements he has on his record? Does't any single ONE george's offensive actions easily dwarf Clinton's marital infidelity (and subsequent BS about whether he did or didn't get a BJ)? Doesn't george's actions taken in aggregate DEMAND removal from office? Shit - I'D blow the guy myself if I thought it would help get him out of office and into jail!!

We are at an important crossroad in our nation's history. We must decide if we are to remain in the democratic model, or if we choose an autocratic one. Choose wisely......

1. Because impeachment is a political process. Not a judicial one.
That's just the way it is today.

20. There was a vast RW conspiracy determined to bring Clinton down by doing
whatever it took. The total hijacking of this Republic will be almost complete unless a vast break in the ranks occurs. :grr:

2. Simple: Which party is in power to impeach?
It's the repubs and they're not going to do it.

9. This issue is larger..
...than republican or democrat. This issue speaks to the definition, character, and complexeion of our country. I simply have a hard time accepting that most elected Republicans would prefer decimating the democratic model over stepping up and preserving democracy. Perhaps we need convince the republicans that they will be viewed as HEROS if they answer the call to action.

19. You may have a hard time accepting it, but I think the facts
support that most elected repubs don't give a shit.

10. As long as they put party before country, they will not impeach. (n/t)

3. We can't impeach as the minority in the House/Senate
Recall if you will that when Clinton was impeached it was when Congress was controlled by the Republicans.

Go ahead and call some republican congressmen and ask them to impeach their president. You'll get a polite no thank you.

The fact that we were able to stonewall the Patriot Act from becoming permenant is a major victory. Celebrate the little things and help democrats get control of Congress is 2006. Then impeachment can begin.

7. If ony we could flip a few Republicans in the Senate and
intorduce Articles of Impeachment there. Of course, it would die in the House, but wouldn't that send a message?

4. banana republicans control the congress.
and they have zero integrity and have demonstrated time and time again that they will sell out the very soul of the country for any cheap partisan political victory.

6. Because sex is more entertaining to the public.
I'm not being facetious about it. The American media is far more likely to publicize a story about sex than anything substantial.

If Billy had told the press that his private life was off-limits to inquiry the silly thing would have blown over (No pun intended).

I'm not a fan of the Clintons and thought he should have resigned after being caught in his pathetic attempt to cover up his dalliance(s).

8. A biased media is also to blame...
Just imagine what would happen if Bush's lie to start a war got the same media coverage as Clinton and Lewinsky.

One of the first items on the puking agenda was to get even for impeaching Nixon. So they dogged Clinton.

The democrats have no such control, and need a huge public outcry to achieve republican support for an impeachment.

SO...Democrats need to present the case to the people through television in order to develop that outcry. They need to push the spying issue and the misuse of prewar intelligence in every forum they can get into.

We, merely voting civilians need to conduct a campaign of bumper stickers and freeway blogs with obviously true messages.

17. I think that the majority of the voting public
will come to see this president as being a criminal and that he should be removed from office.

If he is impeached, then we get Cheney. If both are impeached then we get Rice (right?). We are still in a nasty place with either of those two.

So, it may be better for the Dems to have a congress unwilling to impeach a president that everyone knows deserves it. It makes the GOP look duplicitous in light of the Clinton impeachment. If impeachment did occur, then it might backfire on Dems in the long run because the GOP will paint the DEMs as a party looking for revenge from the Clinton stuff. A good portion of the brain dead public would probably buy that eventually.

While impeachment would feel so good (and would be the right thing to do), a lame duck president who is not trusted by the congress or the people may be better in the long run than a lengthy impeachment trial coupled with the continual howling by the right wing press. While Bush will still be able to do damage to this country for 3 more years, his impeachment would only mean that the ability to do damage goes to one of his minions. Perhaps we keep the evil that we all know and watch him like a hawk for three years.

Just a thought.
