Why it is not a good thing that the judge resigned
--- now Dear Leader gets to make another federal judiciary appointment. Plus this most significant event is being lost in the press due to patriot, ANWR, holidays etc.

Better he squawked loudly and said the only thing keeping him from resigning was giving the present gang another appointment.

Even when we win, we lose.

1. Don't think he could squawk too loudly while still sitting.
Ethical issue. However, now that he's off he can sing like a canary (short of discussing classified material). It's also another straw on the Chimpanzee's back.

And who knows how many more appointments Der Chimpenfuhrer is going to get to make? (evil grin)

2. The judge resigned only from the FISA court. He kept his regular job
as a federal district court judge. The Chief Justice, not Bush himself, appoints FISA judges from judges who already sit on the federal bench. Bush doesn't get to appoint a new judge on account of this resignation.

3. Actually....
this might help give it more longevity in the media which has all been negative against the administration over this world wide. Americans generally have short term memories so I hope we can keep the attention on this issue active as long as possible.

5. Actually, the Chief Justice makes the appointments to that court
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 09:39 PM by Neil Lisst
The FISA court system consists of sitting federal judges who have been appointed for life. They are not specifically appointed to the FISA court. That is an assignment, not an appointment.

The judge only resigned his assignment with the FISA court. He remains a sitting federal judge.

One report said 3 of the remaining 10 judges are upset about this.
